I'm playing Aliens: Colonial Marines which I picked up for $15 and I have to say I'm really not seeing where it's so terrible.

It may be because in the past month I've played most of the Aliens FPS games made in the past 20 years and they're all pretty mediocre. Alien vs Predator '99 is especially irritating.

Study for a math quiz and write up a proposal on why HR Giger is the artist I want to borrow from for my final in painting. I'm pretty excited about that.

And possibly rewatch the first two and fourth Aliens movies. For inspiration or something.

In practice, desperately trying to prepare for Dragon Age Inquisition. I don't think I'll be able to play it until Christmas holiday anyway, but I'm still finishing up Awakening and then all the DLC, omg..

Language learning rants

I'm currently studying Latin and French, and just starting German as well. I previously studied Japanese, which, though completely unlike English, was similar in one regard: no genders.

I just, I just can't wrap my mind around gendered nouns. Why is this random item female, this random thing male, and so on. If cat is male but my cat is a girl, what do I do. What if the agricola is a woman. Arghhh.

I think I could understand it better if they were simply categorized as "Group 1" and "Group 2" rather than "Masculine" and "Feminine", because then I wouldn't overthink it. Yet the concept is just the worst to me, my brain resists it.

For anyone else who studies languages, do you have any rants?

Imagine (however unlikely that might be) TPTB decided to make one character of your same-sex otp gay or bi in canon and give them a same-sex love interest. Assume the story line is respectful and well written.

How'd that make you feel?

Would that make you happy because even if your otp didn't become canon you at least get representation, or would you feel like you're being mocked by only making one gay/bi and not giving you your otp?

Would you feel bad for this?

For some reason this is the fucking funniest thing I've ever seen. Holy shit I am dying here. Basically, a guy bought a $100 dollar "pasta pass" at Olive Garden, and has now used it to eat lunch and dinner at Olive Garden every single day for a month and a half, and he's just so enthusiastic about it and talks about it so matter of factly. Just amazing.

I feel like I'm not as good of a friend to my friends as they are to me. I lean on them all the time, and I try and make sure they know they can lean on me if they need to, but they never seem to need to, or maybe some of them deal with things in different ways, and I can't help them. They've been so good to me, all I want is to be good to them, but sometimes I worry that I can't even begin to repay them. A lot of my problems are emotional, and people can talk me down and boost me up, but when people have physical or financial problems I have nothing to offer.

Other times, I listen to people as they talk, but I don't know the right words to say that will make them feel better. I say the things I would want to hear, because that's what I know helps me, but I worry that it's not as helpful to them. How can I know? Maybe they feel the same way about me, that they can't help me like I help them, and they're unhappy with that. I hope they don't, because I don't want them to be unhappy, but I do hope they think of me as a good friend.

I know this is a really weird thing to post about but I'm curious to see what you guys think.

I work at a doctor's office, and although it doesn't happen *that* often, sometimes patients will just take it upon themselves to call him by his first name instead of Dr. Smith (not his real name, obviously). I understand why in some instances (he knows a ton of people, and sometimes a patient will be referred by one of his friends or relatives and that person refers to him by his first name, so the patient does, too) but in others it just comes out of nowhere, and it bothers me because it seems disrespectful.

I don't know if I'm just being weird and too "proper" or something, but it wouldn't occur to me to just start calling my doctor by his first name without him telling me to (and even then I probably wouldn't feel comfortable with it).

Do a lot of people do this?
