Toxic Masculinity

Is not something men do it's something that is done to men.

Toxic masculinity is not something a group of people should be attacked for, it's something they should be offered support from. Why can't the radfems and the mra get this shit through their heads?

it's both something men do and something that is done to men. because society is basically a terrible machine, for everyone, that we are also all complicit in.

similarly, there are times when we should do everything we can to support men against toxic masculinity - mostly because ultimately I think empathy and caring and fighting against the alienation society produces is a profound moral duty. at the same time, I think it's important to attack the structures of toxic masculinity and to mitigate the harm that it creates, and that often requires arguing against men.

it's really difficult to strike this balance, because - again - society is a stone-cold motherfucker.

i have lots of thoughts on this but i think that covers the bases.

wrong, tocix masculinity is done to men AND women and it's done BY men. men might suffer from it but they also inflict it.

When someone is being an asshole, the first priority is to help and support whoever they're being an asshole to. They're still a priority if they want to change, but a lower one. That goes for both men and women.

I teach, and so many education-related twitter accounts, including that of my school district, have started using netspeak. Am I being a snob, or is that pretty unprofessional especially considering they're supposed to be educators?

I also don't know if they're serious or if they're just trying to look "with it." If it's the latter, stop. Please.

Wizarding treats and snack foods

So as I'm sitting here planning little things for fic I got to thinking about what popular snacks and treats would be in various countries. I have this idea for my Wizard US fic that apple is popular in the US in the same way Pumpkin is in the book. So lots of apple stuff, like Caramel Cauldrons (caramel apples) and cinnamon cauldrons (candy apples with the red stuff) , as well as little apple pies.

Okay, technically not comments, but I was reading the reviews for Monstrous Regiment and good grief. A lot of the one and two stars were only one or two stars because the readers find the idea of a functional squad of women breaks their suspension of disbelief.

Would you describe yourself as fashionable? What's your "style" - do you wear accessories, certain colors, try to match things? How about what you wear to work? Do you wear makeup/do your hair?

Inspired because I just went shopping for "professional" clothes. I've never had a job before that required business clothing. Stuff is expensive! But I love cute pencil skirts and such.

How do you feel about fic characterizations?

How do you feel about fanfic characterizations of your favorite characters? Do you think that certain fics have shaped the way you view the character (even in canon work)? Do you take the fic interpretation over the canon?


I ask because I'm about to embark reading a particular fic, and it's been a while since I've read the canon, and I...don't want to taint my perceptions of the character with whatever the fic writes.
