If you're not in the know, basically the pearl clutching SJW side of the SU tumblr fandom hounded a mentally disturbed fanartist into committing suicide because they didn't like her art. She's now in the hospital, and they're trying to get her room number/hospital to continue to harass her. They're also losing their minds because no one who works on SU has supported them yet, and even Alex Hirsch of Gravity Falls fame has gotten their hackles up.

I don't understand how woefully ignorant and toxic fandom has become. These people would have an aneurysm being in fandom ten years ago.

Do you think there is such a thing as Christian culture? If so, would you say you are part of it? If it exists, do you think it's a national/regional thing?

I am not American and not from a Christian background, and the concept of culture being entirely divorced from religion is kind of weird to me. (One of the commenters in that thread actually brought this up, which I found interesting since I wasn't expecting anyone else to approach it from a perspective similar to mine.)

Character Dissonance

I was thinking about the prevalence of OOC in fic and fandom head-canons when I was reading some meta on Tauriel and Thorin regarding how the Hobbit movies wanted to portray them (curious about the outside world/compassionate; noble prince) versus what the movies actually showed us (Tauriel doesn't show any emotion at all to the deaths of her fellow elves; Thorin is a dick to a lot of people he has no reason to be a dick too, etc.)

It got me thinking about the dissonance between character interpretations where some fans will accept what they are told the character is like (what the character is intended to be) and some will latch onto what they are seeing the character is actually doing/saying. This can leave a wide gap for some characters. What do you guys think of this? Have you seen this in your own fandoms? Does it explain some of the prevalent OOC you see? Have you seen other meta on this?

Fleas

I just moved into a new house on Saturday. I'm renting a room in a house, and today the house owner came home and told me his dog has fleas. Now my dog, who has never had fleas in his 9 years of life, has fleas. I am so beyond annoyed. If I had anywhere to go I'd move out. This is ridiculous. Fleas! Ugh.

Do you go by canon or non-canon? Do you come to a pairing through simple logic ( i.e not jumping through hoops to get there), or do you simply ship by preference?

Sometimes I'm lucky enough to ship the camon pair, but most times it is purely preference, meaning that I feel like I'm always in the rare pair side of things. If that pairing looks plausible despite this, that's a welcome bonus.
