Star Wars Stream Part 2: More cute things!

Time for part 2! The shitty movies are done! The holiday special is taken (sorry) so I'm changing it up a bit! There's a poll!

Obviously we are showing the next two movies. The rebels had a hell of a victory, but now the other guys are taking them serious, and there's hell to pay! THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

Then, they got their licks, but now Luke is back, with one less hand but a lot more experience! It's time to finish it! THE RETURN OF THE JEDI.

Finally, we gonna ewok! The only question is, which one? The Ewok adventure, or The Battle for Endor (more people die in the second, but you'll not necessarily hate them as much?)

First one: Wicket the Ewok and his friends agree to help two shipwrecked human children on a quest to find their parents.

Second: The army of the Marauders, led by by King Terak and the witch Charal attack the Ewoks village. The parents and the brother of Cindel all die in this attack. Cindel and the Ewok Wicket escape and in a forrest they meet Teek a naughty and very fast animal. Teek takes them to a house in which a old man, Noa, lives. Like Cindel he also crashed with his Starcruiser on Endor. Together they fight Terak and Charal.

What with all the recent national news, shootings in theaters and shit, and some local stuff ("What we need are MORE guns!")... I am honestly scared shitless to go out to the movies. Which sucks, because there are movies I wanna see, and I keep watching them slip away. Help me not be stupid. :(

For me it was at a wedding last year. As it turned out one of the girls there knew how to swing dance and we took a few turns around the floor for the hell of it.

I think I've maybe gotten too old for raves but those were fun back in the day.

I feel like I'm really starting to hate my fellow writers.
Went to a nano meetup recently (a social event, not a write-in), and I got cornered by a lady who didn't seem interested in an actual back-and-forth conversation. She'd keep steering it back to the intricacies of her novel, and repeating the same topics over and over again.

Then this other acquaintance I was with got in a conversation with another writer. We'd gotten along fairly well over the evening, but then this other writer started talking about their novel. Acquaintance said: "I wouldn't read that. I'd just put it down." They kept criticizing the other writer's ideas over and over, and the writer kept trying to explain, and they just would not get it. It wasn't even a big issue, it was a really minor nitpick.

Who the hell jumps straight into: "Well, your novel idea sucks, and here's how I would do it better!" Especially at a social event.

Good lord. Do all writers have a total lack of social skills and self-awareness? It seems like they just sit around waiting for their turn to talk about themselves, and think everyone is interested in hearing their criticism of the latest videogame/novel/popular nerdy thing.

Is this just me or am I being crazy? I used to like these people. WTF.

Movies You Did Not Expect To Enjoy

What are some movies you did not expect to like but did?

I watched Footloose last night and did not expect much from it. I've been watching a lot of "classic" 80s movies that I hate. However, I LOVED that movie. I liked all the characters and the music was fantastic. And I was really happy that the preacher had a way more nuanced character than just "super strict bad preacher dude". And his wife was awesome as well (I love Dianne West).

Are there any books, movies, or such that you had you had the wrong impression about ahead of time?

Depressing as the Song of Ice and Fire books can be, I thought they were going to be a hell of a lot darker. A number of the characters are actually decent people, even the ones who aren't dead!

On the other hand, I'm not much of a comic book reader, and I saw the Saturday Morning Watchmen spoof before seeing the actual movie. I expected a humorous deconstruction of the superhero genre, maybe even black comedy a la Drawn Together, not...Watchmen.
