Hitting all the key 'talking points'. Troll or seriously chill the fuck out. People need to seriously stop painting entire fandoms as one thing or another, it's kinda gross. Calling gay women homophobic? Kind gross.

yeah. pretty much. I was admittedly a bit suspicious about it at first but sherlock really isn't that great either. Sherlock does have some good moments in that people assume they are a couple and that's considered normal and no one makes a big deal about it, but otherwise it is p much queer baiting and pretty annoying. (like how it's played for laughs and all that. sigh)

One thing I don't get is why Sherlock is often called homophobic for queer-baiting, but I don't see people say this with the countless other shows/movies guilty of the same thing.

Jesus Christ, this argument has been going on for like six months. Aren't all of you tired of it yet? Surely there is something else to talk about. Here, let me just tell you how this argument usually goes down.


"Sherlock Stans: You're homophobic!"
"Elementary Stans: You're misogynist!"
"Sherlock Fans: We're going to keep yelling at you because we're bored"
"People who like both and/or all incarnations of Sherlock Holmes: Both of you are loud and annoying, stop yelling at each other."

Then neither of them stop yelling because the Sherlock fans started it out of boredom and the Elementary fans have nothing else to talk about because they only have one canon episode so far.

Your fandoms have nothing to do with each other. Stop whining at each other and go have fun. You're being a buzzkill for everyone else.

-shrugs- Meh, personally I'd love for a modern adaption that doesn't have any romantic involvement/hints at it between them at all [or, more specifically, Sherlock [the character] had no romantic entanglements].

And no, before anyone assumes this, it's not because of 'Omg! Teh Gay!' - I just think it would be a nice change of pace to have no romantic undertones to their relationship [seeing as both the movies, and Sherlock BBC have those.]

I always find it funny when I find a secret that exists purely to "educate" people. Whatever happened to cut-and-dry "I judge you" secrets? Why do we need a lecture?

Regardless, I do think it would be dumb to dislike Elementary for that reason. I'm getting rather tired of people hating things for not being "progressive". If the show was downright offensive to homosexuals I would understand, but it isn't. At least, I assume it isn't. There's only one episode and I really have no interest in it myself, so...yep.

Am I the only person that doesn't get offended by this so-called 'queer-baiting'? Yes, they make jokes about John and Sherlock being together. But I know plenty of male/female leads where this is also done.

If the writers/directors didn't give these little hints/jokes uberfans would STILL find things to point out that show how much leads love each other (Did you see! In these two frames X character totally checked out Y character! Of course, it was purposeful and not at all just an accidental glance. I for one have never accidentally stared at someone for no reason).

Man, I hope when the new episodes come out the fandoms will leave each other alone(pfft, yeah right). While I have witnessed Sherlock fandom douchebaggery, I'm getting sick of seeing Elementary-centric blogs complaining about it. Especially since all the arguments like this are so worn out by now.

It's not homophobic that they're making Watson a woman, though tbh that's dampened my enthusiasm a bit. I can't not ship Holmes/Watson pairs and guy!Holmes/lady!Watson is the one gender combination that doesn't interest me at all.

Apart from that, I'm a little worried they'll go with the women as eternal babysitter plot, which bothers me a little. I did promise my friend I'd give the show a fair chance, though, so I'll try to.

OH MY GOD, THIS FUCKING ARGUMENT.

I am sorry to be rude, but really, both of these fandoms/hatedoms are completely insufferable now AND THERE'S ONLY BEEN ONE EPISODE [of Elementary]. They're both redundant and they're both good shows and both pairs have excellent chemistry in different ways. Now everybody sit the goddamn hell down and watch the attractive people solve mysteries and stop fighting about it because you're agitatin' my sciatica.

Because I was complaining that genderswapping Watson would fuck everything up and Elementary would be terrible without the homoeroticism of Sherlock and Watson's relationship and there would be cats and dogs living together. Mass hysteria!

And then I watched the Elementary pilot last night. I LOVED IT. And I love Lucy Lui Watson.

Anyway, I like both shows. I'm glad I stay out of fandom for the most part in this case.

I really hate Elementary, and think it is sexist as shit (particularly in how they changed Watson's background when they made him a woman), but I actually agree with this secret.

I think the potential for homophobic motivations ("oh no, if Watson's a man people will think he's gay!" "better make Watson a woman for the UST") is there, but there isn't anything outright homophobic about the show.

And yeah, BBC Sherlock is a homophobic, sexist, racist piece of shit.

Yeah ... no.

They made Watson a woman, fair enough, but why not Sherlock too? Because homophobic executives didn't want the HoYay on an American show, so they tried to head it off at the pass. Which is ridiculous, because BBC Sherlock is a huge hit even in America, so I don't see why they got all freaked out about teh gayness oh noes.

I'm more annoyed that they took away Watson's military career and medical license. THAT pissed me off. The genderswapping is secondary.
