Are there any active ones floating around DW? I participate in caffeinatedmagic, but I'd be very interested in one that's centered around a specific fandom. The community I'm in is great, but I feel like it's pure competition, where if it was a Final Fantasy (for example) LIMS challenge community, I'd be able to bond with other users or at least strike up some sort of convo.

How is your day going, F!S? What's your mood, currently?

Mine is alright, I guess. My grandma and her mother went to Chile this morning. I slept in, so I didn't get to say goodbye to my great grandmother for the last time. I feel a bit of regret, but at the same time, I'm kind of glad I didn't see her. I grew very close to her, and I think if I saw her again, I'd be grieving right now.

I do miss her. I hope I get to see her again someday. That would be really nice.

A friend of my parents (almost 70 years old) told me one of several stories where he was trying to get out of having class in middle school (or late elementary, I don't recall): in this one, he put a chair on a desk, and from there he inserted a penny into the space between the lightbulb and the socket. He was simply hoping to short out the light in his classroom. Instead he accidentally shorted out the school's entire electrical system.

I looked up MsScribe on fandomwiki and checked out the MsScribe Story on journalfen after hearing it mentioned in a Harry Potter discussion, so I know what the whole deal was about, but...I'm confused as to why it was such a big thing. I don't...really understand how a sockpuppet fnargle could have drawn so much attention and made such big waves. So...confused new-ish fan is confused?

I *think* I'm just missing the context behind it: was the culture of shipping cohorts and different comms and BNFs and the divisions within the HP fandom (like Sugar Quill vs Fiction Alley) REALLY that massive and noticeable and fandom-wide? Like, was it something every HP had to deal with and were always aware of due to participation or osmosis or something?

I'd...just like some people with first-hand memories of that era and fandom to explain how and why the fandom was constructed in such a way that something as inane-sounding as the msscribe story could actually be a big deal. If it gives you guys entertainment to talk about it, that is :)

I'm really messed up right now and I just needed to get this out.

Recently I got drunk with some friends and had sex with a guy I've known for years (not well but have seen him on and off). But I don't remember the sex. I just remember a flash of pain and waking up bleeding and naked.

I'm scared because 1. I could be pregnant 2. I still don't remember anything.

I just feel so fucked up. Half of me thinks it was rape as I never consented and just remember pain, the other doesn't know as I always fancied him a bit and would have been ok having sex with him sober, possibly. I just fucking don't know. And I'm scared and feel alone and just want a hug from my mom but I feel like I can't tell her anything because she already looks down at me for getting drunk.

I just feel like a failure right now. Life hasn't been great and this has just fucked me up even more.

I'm sorry for this. This isn't a great fandomsecret post. I just feel lost and alone and have no one to speak to and gather my thoughts.

I know I was stupid. I just never thought that having a few drinks with friends would lead to something like this. I don't even remember drinking that much.

That's horrible and I'm sorry that it happened to you, anon. Don't apologize for posting about it, either. Sometimes talking about things - even to anons on the Internet - can help.

It doesn't matter that you fancied him and might have consented to sleep with him when sober. You were drunk enough that you couldn't remember the sex and, therefore, couldn't consent. He shouldn't have had sex with you. The fact that he did is not your fault, anon, and it doesn't make you a bad person. Just because you got drunk, that does not mean you consented to having sex, and it doesn't make what happened not rape.

Do you have any friends or even a counselor or some sort of third party you can talk to about it? It might help to be able to discuss it and get it out there.

I don't think GoT is much more full of rape than any other fandom or society really. One in four women and one in six men are sexually assaulted. In any fandom there's misogynistic, horrible rape-fetishing fic. Fanfic rants gets several rants a week about rape. We're awful in dealing with rape as a culture and it's all over our literature. I can't think of a Mature rated TV show without rape. Sons of Anarchy and the Borgias dealt with it better in my opinion but rape is a common narrative device.
