Where is a good site that discusses the new episodes of Doctor Who? I discovered reddit recently and do like it but the site gets confusing for me since I open everything up in tabs, then trying to follow the line of discussion of who is replying to who. I'm not sure of the LJ community, seemed a little small.

I am well aware that this makes me sound like a whiny, ungrateful bitch.

But I disappointed in the artist I got for my big bang. Claims just opened, and I was happy at first that my fic got claimed so fast, but when I looked on the artist's LJ...well, I know everyone had to start somewhere, and everyone needs practice, and this particular artist looks like they just started in drawing and artwork. I get that it's probably a big leap for them to commit themselves to a big bang..

But I'm still disappointed in not getting a good artist for my story. :( I'm especially worried that this will end up like the last time I did a big bang. I got an artist who wasn't very good and did a fanmix to make-up for some last-minute art that even less good...despite the fact that during the artist claims, writers were allowed to say which kinds of art we did or didn't prefer, and the only one I said I didn't like was fanmixes. And at first, the artist was going along, but asked if they could do a fanmix at the end and, like, there was no way to say "I don't like fanmixes at all" without sounding like a dick.

Even if this doesn't end up like that, though, I'm still kinda disappointed in my artist. I'll still work with them, encourage them, and hope for the best, but...I think this is the point I need to stop using "hey, you'll get cool art out of this!" as motivation to write (or rather, to write faster/fast enough to fit the big bang timeframe) and focus more on just the writing process itself (which I normally like to spend a lot more time on - big bangs are a major challenge for me because of that).

Well, technically they're not even my in-laws. They're the parents of my long-term partner.

And yesterday I found out that his mother basically got it in her head that I'm depriving my boyfriend of kids. That if he would be with someone else, apparently, she'd already have grandkids running around. Never mind that my bf s more adamantly childfree than I am - no, apparently I'm the wicked woman who is standing in his life goal of becoming a father *rolls eyes*. Now, the bf did correct her on it, but I'm not sure that makes a difference once people get that shit in their head. Well, all the more reason to not see them much I guess...

Basically a reverse of yesterday's thread (and I expect people have a lot more of these).

The one thing that I am a bit sad about not liking so much is The Neverending Story. I LOVED it as a kid. It made me cry! But when I try to rewatch it as an adult (every now and again), I realize how boring it is. Honestly, the movie feels like it goes on for days. I guess that is why it is called The Neverending Story.

Another thing (that I mentioned once) is bike riding. I used to do it all the time as a kid. But at some point in my life, I became a huge weenie and now bike riding just makes me nervous.

What things did you used to love but not so much anymore?

Still here. I've been on the meds for 2 months and I've noticed a marked improvement. My office lost 2 people (one retired, the other found another job) so I'm now doing the work of 4, and I'm...not losing my mind as much as I thought. I have to get the prescription renewed the end of the month. So far it's been easier than I thought to sneak the medication when I'm at home. I use a pill case and I keep the bottle at work.

I have a new fandom crush, French actor Grégory Fitoussi. He is in the tv show Mr. Selfridge. I want to watch more things with him in them, but the problem I have is that most of them are French, and I don't speak it. Also, I am finding it difficult to even find these things online to watch, and if I do find them, there are no subtitles. Any suggestions on what I can do?

Is it too much to ask that you research the kind of undergarments that people wore if you're doing period smut? The bra wasn't invented until the 19-teens. Boxer shorts weren't invented until the 1920s. And women didn't wear panties; they wore drawers or knickers (and if you go back a little further, they didn't wear anything at all. Shouldn't you be jumping on that, you kinky fuckers?).

book club - October recs

Just a reminder that we're taking recs for October! Remember that it's one rec per person and you need to include a short description of the work along with the title and author.le can read it and if it's readily available

I'm also thinking about doing something a little different for these next few books. Not a lot of people read The Plague Stone, or at least, not a lot of people talked about it. Here are two things I'm going to do. First, I'm going to try to gather information about the availability of books - I know I didn't end up getting The Plague Stone because I couldn't find it at my library or at the huge chain bookstore I looked at. Second, if I do read the book, I'm going to try to generate some discussion questions to spark discussion! If I don't end up reading it, I'll see if I can get someone else to do that, so we'll have a discussion starter.

One good starting place for availability is the simple question - is it available at the library? I'm going to see if the books that are recommended are available at a) my local library, which is fairly extensive (I live inside Indianapolis city limits) and b) at major booksellers such as Barnes & Noble. (If you are reccing a book and already have the latter info, let me know!) If I can't find a book that's easy for me to get without paying a ton of money, I'm not going to vote for it. I know I'm not the only one who had an issue with availability for the last month, so let's try to make it as easy as possible for everyone to be able to enjoy the books we choose :)
