The Daily Mail is getting all bent out of shape about the Sun tabloid revealing the Queen and royal family may have supported the Nazis, which is hilarious. You'd think the mail would be delighted with this turn of events since they've been doing that consistently since the 1930s themselves. They should be grateful for their own views being given a veneer of respectability.

There's a kinda big Attack on Titan fanart theft thing happening on DA right now. The guy is also for some reason tagging the stolen art with nearly every anime title. If you looked for new fan of Sailor Moon this morning, you'd get a wall AoT instead.(Trying to leave comments about it went as well as I expected it too for people who did so. Which was why I didn't bother.) I'm not a fan of AoT, and I'm not familiar with the artist, or works so I'm not much help informing, or reporting.

How Do I Pass for 17?

I'm regularly mistaken for someone in their late teens and that's not usually a good thing. But the local pool has raised prices from $1 to $3.50 for anyone over 17, and I intend to visit a lot this summer, so I figure I'll just go in and say I didn't bring my ID with me to the pool (because why would I, I'd have to check it and that's a good way to get your identity stolen). I'm not very worried about my looks giving me away, but what if a real teenager strikes up a conversation? (Real Teenagers being regularly employed there.) I was born in the frikkin' eighties! The late end, but still.

Do I feign not knowing life without computers and cell phones? Pretend I don't remember September 11th? What shows did they watch as kids? I know it's not Doug, Rugrats or Cardcaptors. What movies made the everlasting impression on them the way Hocus Pocus and Angels in the Outfield did on me? (I have a friend who's two years younger and apparently Holes was an enormous thing for people born that year. I was just a teeny bit too old to have gotten into it.)

Give me the FBI psychological profile of a girl born in 1998, F!S. I need to research before the heat gets any worse!

Complaining about foreign food

Now I don't want to be that white person giving an indian shitty ratings because the food was "too spicy", but...


I ordered online and one of the dishes was so incredibly salty I just couldn't get it down. Now I don't have much experience with indian food and don't know if it's supposed to be that way? But I'd like to give the restaurant a rating nonetheless.

Should I mention it or not? Is there a right way to approach this? (I know it's a minor issue in my case, but in general)

When gay characters die...

How do you feel? Especially if you're gay? Does it feel like an affront to you? Like gay characters are only "allowed" to exist if they die, or their deaths are because they're gay, regardless of any other plot contexts?

Because, thar's the reaction I see a lot, and it makes me feel like saying 1. Character is not a reflection of you; you are not Character, and 2. Character -like you, I imagine - is more than their sexuality and reducing them to that is really shortsighted especially from someone who's all about the craft of writing.

But I'm not gay,so maybe I'm just way off base.

A question for the Japanese experts (specifically Kansai-ben)

Thanks to the slight anime segue prompted by Secret #1, and remembering there are some experts here, I need a little help.

I'm working on translating an anime by ear (no closed captioning is available), and there is one word that I cannot find the meaning of, though it's used multiple times.

The character that says it is a middle-aged man with a sometimes VERY thick Kansai accent. It's a random one-word phrase, in line with "mattaku" and "teyandee".

As far as I can tell, it sounds like "deroubumi" or "darabumi".

(To give you an idea how I know I sometimes mishear, it took forever for me to work out "teyandee" because I kept hearing "kiyandi". Yeah...)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

-My store isn't making the sales numbers that corporate likes.
-Corporate is lowering the hours available for part timers (like me).
-Manager has not had any complaints about my work or work ethic. Literally the only thing he has said I could improve on is getting people signed up for our mailer.
-My average of 20 hours/week has gone down to 10, last week I worked 4, I'm not even on the schedule for next week, but I haven't been fired.
-Corporate is making Manager hire more workers within the month.

(Yes, I'm looking for another job.)

I feel like I'm missing something. What is the benefit of not firing an employee you clearly don't want around? Are mailers really worth that much to "fire" me over? When we don't even have a quota in place for them? And how the fuck is he supposed to "see how much [I] can improve in the next few weeks" if I'm not working at all?

I know that this is part of the reality of working retail, but fuck if I can understand it.

How does one kill desire?

I'm not talking about anything sexual or violent (...though it would probably be a good thing to kill the latter, and maybe the former in some cases).

How do you kill the urge to do something, when it just keeps coming back to you, and all you want is for it to go away?

Without getting into specifics, I've been playing around with a sort of... art-like project for a couple of years, but nothing solid. I never really wanted to get too deep into it. But there is this crazy urge in me to complete it. The thing is... I've been down this road before, and let's just say I've come to regret these types of projects in the past, even though I threw my heart and soul into them. I feel like maybe I got a little too excited about them that I didn't give enough thought to them, and I just cringe when I look back. They weren't good enough when I did them, not even good enough as a "stepping stone" or whatever.

Part of me wants to tell myself to knock it off, ignore everything and keep moving. The other part just wants to just complete the project and never show anyone. But then my dumb ass would be sad for not ever showing it to anyone. That would last about 15 minutes and I'd go back to going "FUCK, why did I think that was a good idea?" I do have reasons for my insecurity, but it just seems to manifest itself in ridiculous ways whenever I'm trying to be artistic.
