I came across someone who said they hate kids - and made it very clear she just unapologetically hates them.

So... why do people hate (or at least strongly dislike) kids? I've always wondered this. I will admit I have trouble relating to them - I was a very different kind of kid than many, so my reaction to them half the time is "why don't you just want to read a book?" "Why do you think museums are stupid?" :P But I would never say I hate them...

My current hypothesis is that it's a result of strong external pressure to have kids. And to a lesser extent, pressure to love kids.

I wouldn't say I hate kids. But I would say that outside of infants, I find them really, really annoying. Like, I can't handle them for very long. I can deal with a couple of hours, but any longer than that and I'm ready to pull my hair out.

While I don't want to have kids of my own, I do like being around kids. I get not wanting to be around kids, they have a lot of energy and can be little snots, but people unapologetically hate kids freak me out a bit to honest.

I hate kids, but I don't hate every child. If they are typical children who are full of energy and loud and attention demanding, I hate it and them in the same way "I hate mosquitos." It's not a person-to-person hate.

When people say they hate cats or hate dogs, they don't mean they go out of their way to hate every dog or cat they come across. They mean they hate having to interact or be around the typical dog or typical cat.

I don't know or understand. I can get hating annoying kids but I can't understand hating children in general.

I hate the concept of having one and putting so much time and money into them when it's my life, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hate children. I like seeing what the kids these days are doing, the games they're playing, ect.

Were you were the type of teenager/pre-teen who went through that phase where you really wanted to watch shows that were "edgy" or "mature" or otherwise something that was "not for kids"?

If you were, what were the shows that you watched to fulfill this desire? Were they really grown-up shows? Violent and bloody shows? Do you laugh at yourself now or were the shows genuinely good?

I finally started reading up on all the gamergate bullshit just so I could understand what the fuck everyone was talking about, and during my hunt for unbiased sources of information (which are very, very hard to find), I came across this amazing comedy gold.

The above video is discussing the stupidity of the The Sarkeesian Effect, an up-coming (supposedly) documentary made by a batshit insane white supremacist and some other guy, about how Anita Sarkeesian is Evil Incarnate.

It's a long video, but I think it's worth watching because holy fucking shit. The incompetence! The stupidity! The "I'm not racist but here's why white people are superior" rhetoric! The EVERYTHING! The story behind this The Sarkeesian Effect is the ultimate trainwreck. I haven't been this enthralled by something so baffling and bizarre and idiotic since I read the msscribe story.

However, as much as I'm enjoying the schadenfreude, part of me wants to see this "documentary" actually get made just so I can call up some friends to get roaring drunk and MST3K it.

Pretend you win the lottery. Not millions, but enough of a jackpot that it will pay you enough every month to live on comfortably so that you never have to worry about money again. Even if you can't splurge on luxuries or overseas vacations.

Amazon Prime account sharing question

I have a shared Prime account with my mom, and am contemplating buying her a birthday present through Amazon, but I don't want her to know about it, obviously. Will she be notified of purchases I make or anything? Amazon would be more convenient, but if she can see my purchases, I'll buy it elsewhere.

(Also, if it makes a difference, I have the old type of shared account that was grandfathered in before they switched over to only being able to share with people with the same address.)

A while ago (and I'm sorry, but I can't name the date... maybe a year or so, but perhaps even longer?) there was an awesome thread along the lines of "Stuff we want to read" where people submitted their favorite tropes/plot hooks and generally, what they wanted out of a reading experience. More than a few of these comments were so inspiring/interesting that I copied and pasted them into a sticky note on my hard drive, and now they're helping my NaNoWriMo project inch its way to completion and (I hope hope hope) general awesomeness. When I get stuck on a particular plot aspect, I survey the comments/list and think, can I do any of these things, and more often than not, the answer is HELL YEAH!. I cannot thank you awesome Anons enough for writing out these lists in such exhaustive detail, and I hope to make some of you really happy down the line!
