I have said the same thing - I can enjoy these movies as an AU, it is about the only way it makes sense to me. I find Legolas and Thranduil interesting in these films, but there is no way that Legolas is the same Legolas in the LOTR films. Feels very much like an AU.

That being said, even as an AU, there was not enough plot for that much film time.

I think some of the dancers are very talented, but rarely the ones they push to win. The set up of the show + Jennifer Lopez's ego + the fact that only one of the judges is an actual dancer = why it's so overwhelmingly frustrating to watch.

I used to love SYTYCD, too, but Nigel is increasingly creepy as hell to the young female dancers that audition & the only people who ever get genuine credit for their skill are contemporary, so that show's really grated on my nerves over the years, too.

I don’t know this specific example, but I tend to prioritize fair treatment of mental illness over fair treatment of religion, since you don’t choose your mental illness. (Inb4 someone who thinks they’re being witty says religion is a mental illness.) Anyway, I do find it offensive when mental illness is framed as “maybe they were actually just possessed by a demon!”

Or maybe they're kids who think dumbass things because they're kids, and kids always think dumbass things? and as they grow up they'll be slightly less dumbassed because they're not kids anymore?

I mean, the Baby Boomers said the same shit ("never trust anyone over 30"), so this isn't even, like, a new issue.

I agree the costume design and visual concept for the character was fantastic. For the most part, the costuming was fine in the Hobbit films (though I didn't think the chick was pretty enough to be an elf, but oh well). Unfortunately the rest of the movies is what sucked.

I agree with you on the time period, but that film... It's not that it's bad, it's that it's SO BAD.

Watch the BBC documentary "Pompeii: The Last Day". That was heartbreaking, and made me cry.

The film made me cry for very different reasons.
