I don't know anything about Final Fantasy, but I really, really hate condensed timelines in things, so I agree with you on principle.

To this day I refuse to accept that S1 of Sherlock took place over the span of 2 months. It's not even super unreasonable that all that stuff could've happened in 2 months, it definitely could've. I just think it's stupid. Give the story some time to settle, writers, damn.

The most egregious one, for me, is when The 100 tells us that the first 2.5 seasons happened in 6 months, yet the sheer amount of stuff that happens in the first 2.5 seasons makes that completely ridiculous.

Is it unoriginal at this point? Yes. Am I still a complete and total sucker for it? 100% absolutely

(I do agree that it would be really nice to mix up the gender dynamics of it a little; I especially want to see f/f or m/m versions of the trope)

Right now it seems to be everyone already hating Marie Kondo (there was an interesting bit of Discourse comparing Tumblr's reaction to her vs Tumblr's reaction to the Fab 5: Queer Eye just comes in and fixes everything *for* you and you barely have to do any effort (something that those stuck in the "i'm depressed and just want everything fixed for me without putting in effort" mindset loves), whereas Marie Kondo treats you like an adult and teaches you how to fix things yourself -- people calling her ableist or whatever)

I just figured women liked it for the same reasons they like slash. It removes them completely from the equation, so they don't have to compare themselves to another woman.

Also, I think lots of women enjoy the transgressive aspect of it.

I imagine those claiming it's "progressive" are just pushing back against those like OP who see it as some sort of affront to feminism/equality/etc.

You know, to be honest, until you mentioned it, I didn't really notice that this is kind of a theme in DW in general, even old!Who.

Like, the Doctor does this drive-by saving but there's all this little stuff that happened/happens during the Big Thing that never gets addressed or fixed, and I have to wonder if things just go to shit again after the Doctor is gone.
