Yesterday I went and got myself a new tattoo! It's the words "You are the captain of your own ship" in Blackaddar font, and it's around my ankle. I didn't twitch my foot once while I was getting tattooed, nor did I cry or faint.

And it looks awesome!

Only I can't be happy about it to my family, because if they find out about it now, they'll be super disapproving. (I'm going to not tell them, and see if they see it next time I see them in person, so about December).

So, here I am, on F!S.

How about any of you guys? Have you done anything recently that you're super proud of yourself for? Anything counts!

A few years ago, when possibly some something-gate had gone on, I remember reading a lot of good articles and discussions on women's experiences being sexually harassed. There were some about women who'd matured early, and suddenly got this attention; there was one about a woman who became more "attractive", and found the extra attention and harrassment unbearable (I think her story involved a stalker) so she took to dressing and making herself up as frumpy as possible; and there were general stories about every woman having stories of "near misses", even if not of actually full-blown assault and rape.

There were also articles on cat-calling and a lot of stuff on the effect of being sexually more "attractive".

I have some people in my life who I'd like to be able to direct to such first-hand stories (they would be more affected by this than by articles laying out rules and facts and arguments). Do people have good links? I can't seem to find the root articles I started from years ago.

In love with a stranger

So yeah. I kinda figured out I'm in love with someone I've never met. We've known each other online for years, shared fandom, created elaborate worlds together, and picked each other up when the world became a dark, crappy place. And today, we were just having a normal conversation, and it just sort of hit me. And I felt sick and happy and depressed at the same time.

It's never gonna happen, I know. I'm not THAT irrational. Conscription is gonna be an issue in our relationship for starters. And then there's the fact they live on the other side of the world to me, and there's a slim chance of us meeting for at least another few years. And I know they'd never see me in that light anyway. In fact, I could list a hundred reasons why it'd fall apart.

But I still love them. And I hate knowing that now, when it hurts too much.

Can anyone else share stories of their online relationships/friendships? How they dealt with this sort of situation? I'm not looking for a bitchslap into reality or advice, or anything. I just want to hear other people's experiences. Maybe it'll help clear my head or something.

I became friends with someone online some years ago we talked for a couple of years before we actually dated, mostly because both of where (and still are) bastards, it did work our for a couple of years of long distance though, before he cheated on me. It was made a bit easier because we only lived like 8 hours away from each other, even if we lived in different countries.

What I'm trying to say I think is that we where best friends for ages without any thought of romance before we got together, and well the same could happen to you, long distance relationships sucks though, but some people handle it better than others. And never say never.

Ships you like because you KNOW it's fucked up

When people explain why they don't ship something (without bringing their OTP into the equation), they generally say something along the lines of, "Those two wouldn't be good together/they have an unhealthy relationship/there's a power imbalance."

So, my question is what ships do you like for any of these reasons listed? Are there any ships you like because they're deliciously fucked up and can't end well for one or both of the characters?

Ranting about your main characters

So the main character for one of my stories is driving me insane and I kind of wanted to vent. Maybe some other people have stories to share so I won't feel so alone in my frustration, haha.

Anyway, so Alex (my MC) has been hiding a lot of plot-important stuff from me. Someone's stalking him and he refused to show me a postcard his stalker sent - the same postcard that freaked him out so much that he resorted back to self harm, which is another plot-important thing - and because of that, he stalled my story for weeks. :S
And the self harm would have made great angst to write about, if his boyfriend hadn't JUST had a talk with him along the lines of 'man I know you have issues but you can always come to me, we can try to work through it together' and I was just OMG ALEX MAN UP but that's mostly me wanting to get my story done :P

Another of my characters, Zack, refused to tell me what was going on between him and Flyzik. Luckily Flyzik can't keep a secret and told me.

And lastly, for my NaNoWriMo my MC wouldn't tell me his name. I had to threaten him to call him something ridiculous like Sparkly McGaypants to have him confess his name was Logan Callahan.

So, any other stories of characters being infuriating and refusing to cooperate? Please tell me I'm not alone XD

I'm kind of confused. How can a character you create hide things from you or refuse to show you things? And how can a character not tell you his name? I get if you have trouble coming up with a name or figuring out a name for your character, but the way you're phrasing this is like you think these are real people talking to you, which confuses me.
