I'm learning Arabic at the moment (no real reason, except that it's widely spoken and I didn't know it at all). I'm about halfway through learning the script and learning some animal vocab to practice hearing the different sounds, all using free apps, and I had forgotten just how much fun this stuff is!

I love learning new scripts! I love hearing links with words I know in other languages! I love starting to hear differences that I couldn't hear yesterday!

What joy have you rediscovered? Or what language are you learning?

Also, am I ever actually going to be able to hear the difference between siin and Saad?

I'm probably the only one who feels like this, but every time I see a secret that says "we can't be friends if 'x'" or "I judge you if you do this" I ... immediately want to start doing it. Even if it's bad.

I've been told not to eat junk food because it makes you fat and your face breaks out, but this has never happened to me. I eat a lot of salad too, so why is it bad if I eat five cookies in one day?

Because people want you to feel bad about yourself and be unhappy. If your metabolism can take it and you're still getting all the proper nutrition, go ahead and eat that many cookies.

I'd laugh at the terminology of Homestuckers, but it's been almost four years since this fandom "friend" and I started doing this dance. We write together and we're awesome at it. We've been carrying this project since 2008 and we're not nearly finished.

We're as close as two persons can be, we talk every day, and there's a lot of sexual attraction. But we hate each other guts. At best, we work as a team and defy each other to best each other with our writing. Creativity flows and we laugh and we have the best times. But at worst, we can fight for hours and hours and I seethe with rage, wanting to strangle her, or kiss her until she bruises and shuts the fuck up for once in her life.

Too bad she lives in another country. Maybe it's for the best, though.

IRL, I'm a really peaceful person. I swear I am. I always prefer to talk, have never hurt physically another person, hate the idea of harming another human being. But she makes my insides coil with hate I don't know how to handle, and "wax black" for her.

I always end up giving her what she wants to attain some peace, but every time I resent her more and more. And /it's been years/ and I don't know how to stop, and sometimes I'm not sure I want a way out either, and other times I want to drop the project and end this twisted relationship forever.

I always come back, though. FML.

To me this also sounds like you are more attached to the interaction you know, even if you hate the person. It's easy to become attached to the familiarity of something, even if it's painful to pull away from it. It's quite possible to get addicted to hating someone even if you did or didn't like them to begin with. Whatever you want to call it, I think it's something that can happen to anyone. Hate, rivalry, passion, it probably has many more names. But you might want to talk to someone professional about it if it's stressing you out, because it doesn't sound healthy at all.

Also, can somebody explain to me why is "Republican" something almost like swear word while most movies, shows, literature and what not use the term "Republic of X" to denote something good?

It's just that the Republican party in recent years has become pretty messed up. They've made some radical religious beliefs part of their official platform, especially with social issues. There are people within the party who are sensible and most Republicans I've met are perfectly fine and not hateful people at all. Usually they describe themselves as "fiscally Conservative, but socially liberal" probably to separate themselves from the members of the party who are actually pretty terrible. Right now the official Republican platform includes restricting rights for lgbt people and women, as well as some terrifying policies that would hurt the middle class and the very poor. Ever since Obama took office, there has been a lot of thinly/not-at-all veiled racial animosity towards him, and a lot of it comes from prominent members of the Republican party (fueled by the Tea Party which is a smaller more extreme fringe group that sprang up immediately after the 2008 election and is for all intents and purposes part of the Republican party? It's confusing. They consider themselves a separate party, I think, but some Republicans have adopted their ideals), including the ones who were running in the Presidential primary, as well as the current candidate. There have also been efforts to suppress minority voters in many states, because poor/non-white/young people tend to vote liberal.

tl;dr - "Republicans" aren't bad by definition, but unfortunately some fringe members who are out of touch with reality/possibly just hateful people have become the face of the party.
