Falling out of love with a fandom

I've just fallen out of love with my fandom - bam, like a lightswitch. A month ago I was excited as fuck/reading fic/Tumbling moronically as you do. The Christmas Special aired and did basically nothing for me. Now I'm scrolling past 95% of the posts on Tumblr, dropped all the fanfics I'd been reading, and stopped daydreaming about my OTP entirely.

I've drifted out of fandoms before, but never this abruptly and without a real grace period. It's not like anything even happened in the CS that bothered me particularly. Anyone else have sudden fandom divorce stories?

Asexual recs?

There are so many characters in fandom that we look at and wonder if they're asexual. Some even have pretty strong hints (Sherlock), but is there any media (TV, movie, book) that focuses on a character who is asexual. The asexuality doesn't even have to be the focus of the story, but I'm interested in characters who have actually defined themselves that way/the story has defined them that way, and not just hinted at it, or had the hints it later been contradicted by something else.

What are the most batshit and least batshit fandoms you've been in?

For me, the most batshit is definitely Hetalia. I think it might even be on the Top 10 Most Batshit Fandoms Ever, if such a list existed.

As for the least batshit, that honour goes to Tron. It's the only fandom where I have never encountered wank of any kind. Not even shipping wank. It's a nice change from the batshittery that goes on in all my other fandoms.

I don't even know why but I seriously hate the abbreviation 'veggie' for vegetarian. I've seen it around a lot this week for some reason in fics and comments and every time I hear it I have to grit my teeth. It's such a stupid thing to hate but I can't help it.

Seriously, I'm not even vegetarian.

2012 in Film

This has been a pretty big year for movie ticket sales - what did you think about movies last year?

I like how enthused people were about Avengers, even if I thought the film itself was boring. On a numbers front, it's interesting to read. I also thought we had a very strong year for animation (2013 isn't looking so hot).

Naruto drama bomb (spoilers)

Oh boy, I thought Neji's death was going to cause a shitstorm, but the chapter after it blew that away. So, Naruto is a second away from giving up and someone slaps sense into him. He then makes a comment about this person, a girl, always being by his side. He grabs her hand and holds it, and gets ready to charge into battle with her. The issue? It was Hinata, not Sakura.

The NaruHina fans are rejoicing, the NaruSaku fans are bitterly angsting over it. I find it amusing that some of them are saying Hinata is a horrible person for commenting about Naruto holding her hand, yet Sakura's look of horror must be because she's jealous and not because Neji just died. As if that would make her character any better. :X

Tumblr Etiquette

Scenario: You've just gotten into a fandom with a very slow Tumblr tag. You ship a non-canon femslash pairing like burning.

Question: Is it better manners to hold back on posting shippy gifs etc, and ration them out slowly so as not to single-handedly change the tenor of the tag? Or is it fair game to use the tag the same way you would if it were a big fandom?

Hmm. I don't think spamming any tags is particularly good ettiquette, big or small! I would opt for the former, probably using the queue to stagger out a couple of posts a day. Steady content like that might get other people posting too!

google reverse image search not working in certain countries?

I've noticed that if I want to use Google's reverse image search function, I've got to take out the ".(my country)" after the ".com", or else the option (the little camera icon) simply doesn't show up.

Anyone know why this is so? It is... vaguely insulting? :/ I mean, at least I can access it at all, but still!

Why would that be *insulting*? It's not like google is throwing up a popup that screams "fuck you, you dirty foreigner!" Annoying, yes, but there's nothing saying an American-based (or other-country-based) company has to offer the same service to all other countries equally.
