I laid some flooring the other day in my sister-in-law's place. It involved ripping up carpeting that the previous owners had stuck down with tile glue over laminate floors. wtf. That was definitely a new and horrible experience in incomprehensible DIY logic.

Someone called me good looking the other day and stated it like it should be obvious fact. I thought it was a joke but everyone accepted it and nobody laughed.

No one's ever done that before. It confused the heck out of me.

Made and frosted a layer cake today for my birthday. Cakes I can do in my sleep, layer cake with frosting was new. It tastes great, but the phrase "Well, I guess that's level?" was used in the construction and it shows.

Okay, who requires money orders or bank checks anymore? Seriously. Well, The Massachusetts bar exam people do because that's the only way I can pay for my application. Had to borrow money from the rents because I planned on paying with my credit card and didn't have enough in my bank account to cover it.

My teacher got really preachy about how students who didn't understand today's material probably "had more fun" over the weekend and were going to do horrible on the midterm. I was sick all weekend. I spent most of my time lying around, drinking fruit juice, and conserving my energy. Even if we do need to rush to cover all this material, I feel frustrated that it's apparently a sign of laziness not to be 100% ready for work at all times.

P.S. Why are we rushing if we're skipping half the material? There's a lot of interesting and potentially useful stuff about corporate mergers that we're not being taught at all.

I really hate when tension and conflict comes down to personality conflicts or different styles of doing something, because it can't really be fixed. You can't kick the asshole out if there's not really an asshole. If two people don't work well together, that's no one's fault, but that fact doesn't help the problem at all.

Goddamn especially when it comes between two friends who work wonderfully together in other contexts.

I have an oral exam for French tomorrow and am freaking out. Speaking is just so hard for me, even though with written French exams I usually do fine. I get so nervous speaking that I can hardly say anything!! I've been practicing sample lines to say out loud all evening but I just don't know what they're going to ask me.

Anyone else studying a language? How's it going?

Apparently some firefighters in Baltimore were fighting a fire and some rioters cut the hose line. -___-

I expect the National Guard will be in soon to bust heads. This isn't a protest at all (the family asked for no protests). It is a bunch of assholes taking advantage of being anonymous to loot and attack people (6 officers injured, one unresponsive, reports of arrests because a group of 6 teens were beating a homeless man).

Fandom Dreams

Anyone have any memorable fandom dreams?

I had one where I tried to pitch a script to JJ Abrahms. At his house in Ohio. And told him I was in sixth grade even though I'm in my late 20s. The kitchen had a claw foot tub in the middle of it, but I never figured out why.

So, I know how disappointed y'all are about the new Silent Hill game and I got something that should take some of the edge off.

I present to you: Cry of Fear. It came out a couple years ago and IMO is very Silent Hill like. It runs on a heavily modified version of the (17-year-old) Half-Life 1 engine, so it should run okay on moderate hardware. The best part is, it's free and you don't need Half-Life 1 to play! The main campaign is scary as all get out and there's loads of additional campaigns too!

And if you liked that, consider giving its predecessor Afraid of Monsters a try! Now, this one does require Half-Life 1 to play, but that's okay as Half-Life 1 is a great game for only $10 and you get access to many other great mods as well.
