Well, even if you're doing it because it makes you feel like you're in an exclusive group, I doubt people in small fandoms would mind you making fanworks for them to enjoy, no? I've been in small fandoms where a few people were the main output of fic/art/etc. and I'm always impressed that they keep it up.

They're not real people, though. They're fictional characters. It would be wrong to decide they were irredeemable if they were real people. But they're fictional characters whose existence is bound to their specific presentation and actions in the fiction. It's reasonable to evaluate the fiction as it is given and to approach characters in the way that they're presented. It's not the same as a moral judgment on a real, living human being. There is a fundamental categorical difference here, for God's sake.

Also, in both the cases you reference here, I don't want to read about them being redeemed, because they're unlikable twerps and I don't like reading about them.

eh, about a chapter's worth, over the course of Sabaody. they fought alongside Luffy so I guess that was enough for fandom.

despite the fact that they don't even really know each other and Law's reaction upon seeing Kidd was to flip him off. and that was two years ago - they've likely had zero contact in two years, so. all you can do is shrug and sigh at fandom.
