Colombo squares up against another mystery writer, this one taking the form of a not so harmless little old lady. The title suggests there's more of a cat and mouse game than there actually is, but I'd say the episode's still enjoyable.

Also, when you ask someone a question, you see them read it, you see them typing, but they never answer. Especially if you are in the middle of a back and forth conversation.

People who think that their feelings about someone's artistic work also means something about that person's moral worth.

Like, people whose response to something like the Louis CK news is along the lines of "I never liked his comedy so this doesn't surprise me". That's not how it works! Disliking someone's comedy or acting is not a useful predictor of them being a shitty human being! Stop it!

I guess education systems world wide failed them if no one knows about hyperbole or metonymy. Your feelings got in the way of you actually seeing how you can help improve the world, how ironic. Now if a statement is like "all men are rapists", that won't fly, because that's a serious statement to claim.

"but what if we said the same thing about a minority group?" you mean what if you said the same thing as a group that doesn't have the institutional power? I don't have to explain further, do I?

People who (and I've noticed this proportionately more with guys) even if they're standing closer to the doors of the elevator, make you get off first. Dude, you are not holding a door for me (which is just polite), just fucking get out of the elevator already!

Also on the topic of elevators, people who try and get in before people have even gotten out.

People who walk 2-3 abreast on a sidewalk (which in and of itself is fine), but then don't move when someone is coming in the other direction. Why do I have to walk on the grass/snow/road /whatever because one of you can't walk behind the others for three seconds.

People who stare at you/in your direction - I have enough social anxiety thank you very much and that doesn't help.

Racists/homophobics/ignorant jerks who are all too eager to say shit in front of me and/or my kid (not necessarily about me or him, but like when they speak in general terms too). My family is puerto rican ancestry and my son is half black, plus I'm lesbian who minds my business and doesn't bother anyone. A woman sat at the doctor's with us and started talking about how homosexuality is a mental disease and I was like, mentally, 'I would rip you in half if my kid wasn't here ohhhh myyyy godddd.' (This particular incident further upset me because I haven't fully explained to my son about sexuality and since I haven't dated anyone in a while, this hasn't really come up, but like, don't put that kind of shit in my kid's head. Or any kid's head.) >O

I'm in a low point in my life and I posted about it. Not ten minutes later a few people on anon came into my inbox telling me to kill myself. I feel fortunate to not be suicidal, but is Tumblr always that horrible?

I have watched friends leave left and right after Tumblr put their mental health at risk with incessant hate. Turning off anon doesn't work, people make throwaway accounts to continue harassing!

At this point I hope the site gets nuked. For the few good moments I had there, it is not worth the stress and being attacked for using a wrong gender word or being called racist or ableist for every little thing.

I got called ableist for saying something is nuts.
I got called racist for saying soot made my face black when a fire threatened my neighborhood.

I struggle with depression and am in therapy. It makes me sick that people on Tumblr prowl for people at a low point and send them hateful messages or reblog with hateful things in their commentary. I wish I was bullshitting but I see it happen so much.

Tumblr is irredeemable trash and needs to go.

Pet Advice

About half a year ago, I got an uncommon pet (not naming species or gender for identification reasons). It was one I'd been wanting for a long time, I was very excited to have one, and I made sure to do extensive research before I even looked into getting one.

This particular pet is not happy in its environment. I have provided everything it needs, have spent a lot of money on the best things for it, and socialize with it every day. It does not have the standard outgoing, curious personality of its species; instead, it looks for a hiding spot and struggles every time I try holding it, sometimes trying to bite. I don't know if that's its individual personality, or if it was mistreated by the breeder. I've looked up possible causes, and I haven't found any reasons it would be like this aside from genetics or mistreatment.

It's the "family pet," but I'm the one who has to do everything with it (feeding, cleaning, bathing, interaction, etc.). No one else wants to hold it or do anything with it aside from greeting it every now and then. I feel the pet would be better off in a different home, particularly one where the whole family will love it, but every time I bring this up, the family makes excuses why "we" shouldn't get rid of it. I mention concerns I have regarding its disposition, and they say it's moody and will get over it. It's been long enough that it should have already happened, if it was going to.

This animal has another 7-8 years in its expected lifespan. I don't think it's right to keep this pet in an environment where it's obviously unhappy, and each passing day I'm admittedly becoming more and more bitter that I'm the only one taking care of it. The pet is not affectionate, and even though I try treating it with kindness and speak to it in a calm, mellow voice, it responds negatively.

I don't know what to do anymore. It's a domestic animal, so I can't take it to a wildlife center or zoo, but it is not something the local shelter would take (they only take cats and dogs).

I'd appreciate any advice. I'm aware that I'm the one who wanted the pet in the first place, but I recognize that this individual animal is unhappy in my care.
