For so long I have simply watched from the sidelines and finally, FINALLY, I AM A FANDOM GOER.

Which brings me to my question - for those people who have a few same-sex pairings, how do you keep yourself in check while writing about them/art/shipping (I'm still new to this, bear with me). You may have seen people get very rabid about their pairing just because it would be m/m, and because of any possible connection - I DON'T want to do that, reduce characters to shipping objects instead of human beings (I genuinely think my pairing would be pretty damn compatible, but that pesky universe problem!).

That said, I thought it was amusing that someone tried to nominate Bridget from that series of music videos for Kaleidoscope. I can't imagine someone tackling a fic about any of R. Kelly's characters, but good luck with that.

I want to be involved in a large fandom again... to have fandom friends and be able to write fic and make other fanworks. But I know the risks - I get to intensely angry at everything because I overreact to other people's reactions. Woobies and other standard fandom things that shouldn't matter are far more annoying/frustrating than they should be. So in the end it's really not worth the risk to be involved in fandom. But I still want to!

I'm well aware stumbling over porn is a real possibility. I don't really know how I'd do the actual talk though. My school had relatively good sex ed, so my first run-in with porn had me going "WTF is this shit". (Didn't help it was 70's books written by a likely-high-author.) I didn't see any "live-action" porn until I was 15, and even then my reaction was "wtf ew" because the woman was completely oiled-in and had the fakest-looking tits ever.

As a last note? I was more traumatized by the gorn I accidentally ran into because I didn't get what the word meant.

Is it just me, or have things been more quiet since general comments moved to the end? I mean, I WANTED them to, it's easier for me to read the secrets sans distraction, but I feel like there are less comments now...

I made some anon comments about Mark Watches during my attempts to apologize for my part in The Spuffy Meltdown of 2012, but now that all four of those attempts have failed spectacularly, I don't feel the need to hide my ID anymore. But I really need some help getting over that place.

The whole saga of bannination and apology attempts can be found here, or just the report on the comment stream that got me banned can be found here (TRIGGER WARNING: Both include a GIF from a cartoon that I personally find violently abusive and disturbing -- not originally used by me, btw). In short, my attempts to apologize were met with ignored emails and comment deletion when I went that route.

When I look at what happened, I want to just be able to make some Animal Farm comparisons and say that clearly, Mark is acting like an asshole and fostering a bad environment, but at the same time, I feel BAD. Actually, really, I feel like a worthless piece of shit.

Because, yeah, the bulk of my apology email was centered on why I shouldn't have been banned (it was VERY inconsistent with prior bannings) and my apology was an "if my words offended people" apology. But look at what I said. I mean look at it. I didn't and still don't really think an apology for the words themselves was warranted, but I know what it's like to feel offended. It's not a good feeling, so I apologized for making anyone feel that way, even though I think my comments were ridiculous things to be mondo offended by.

But that's what makes me feel so shitty. Because I know already that it shouldn't be about ME and what I'M offended by. It should be about the people who felt hurt. And if I can't look at it that way, even long enough to offer something more than a "non-apology" apology, then I must be some sort of awful person.

I want to not feel this way, and more than that, I want to NOT WANT TO BE THERE. And yet, In addition to feeling shitty, hurt and angry, I'm also sad because I can't play there anymore (because it's a great place when it's not getting all soap-boxy). But that just starts the circle of "it's not about ME -- am I only apologizing to get something out of it?" thing going again, and yeah...cue the worthless piece of shit feeling.

Is this one of those times where I just have to wait around and hope I eventually feel better? How do you get over things that won't get out of your head? I dunno, I guess hit me with some fun things? (And thanks for listening to all my drama.)

Understanding voices

I've come to realise recently that for some unknown reason I understand thing better if they're said/sung in a male voice than a female voice. It's not just with native English speakers, but with heavily accented ESL speakers and even just listening to foreign language songs; I'll always understand/pick up more words from a male voice better than from a female voice.

So, F!sers, any idea why this might be?

Today's rodents are from the Andes mountains, and are none other than the ultra round, ultra cute chinchillas. They're a very popular animal due to their plushy fur, and are also commonly kept as pets. Though they've certainly been domesticated, they can be a little demanding and need a lot of exercise and physical activity on a regular basis in a moderately cool environment so as to stay healthy and not overheat. They can definitely overheat.

Domestic chinchillas also come in a varitey of colours, and are generally twitchy small eaters. While they look very busy and even very hungry, they can't really eat much due to their diet in the wild being very simple. They're valuable in scientific research as well, because of their hearing, and are generally all prety cute.

Hello Fandomsecrets!

I was just wondering how hairy you are, to like, check what's normal. Because I'm a really hairy girl and I feel really bad about it.
Like seriously, beyond the pleasure trail and the slight mustache I wax away, I also have hair in my ass, like, between the asscheeks, and I'm not really sure how to remove that. My hair also grows very fast, if I'm not waxing, I have to shave every day or I'll get stub.

What's your regional accent and how would describe it?

Mine is Coastal Virginian, US. If you've seen The Wire, it's like that. If you haven't seen The Wire, think of the mirror opposite of a hard Scottish accent.

Like if I were take the sentence, "I am going to turn off the light and then go to bed" and rewrite it in my accent, it would come out as, "I'm gonna turn off tha ligh' en then go a'bed."

How would you rewrite the sentence using your accent?

I'm from the Northeast and would turn that sentence into "I'm gonna turn off the light'n go t'bed," with the "t" before bed sounding halfway like a d.

Our accent usually consists of slurring Ts to Ds or skipping over them altogether "mountain" becomes "moun'in," "kitten" becomes "ki'en," and it is really difficult to tell when someone is saying "can" or "can't" and can lead to some hilarious misunderstandings. However, as someone from Connecticut, I apparently pronounce the Ts in "ct" sharply, as in "exactly" or "correctly."
