Perhaps F!S can help me with my problem - I went to school and connected my laptop to their wireless settings, which disabled my Task Manager and my shut down options, including hibernate, sleep, and shut down. I'm back at home and have signed off of their network, but the shut down options have not come back?

Anybody else ever get that feeling of being able to perform (or appear to perform) life okay, but feel like you're a shade away from feeling total crap?

If so, do you have any tips for feeling better? Or just general life tips for feeling physically well?

I want to feel better, because I have a fuckton of stuff to do that is physically taxing, but I'd rather not throw up while doing it.

Can anyone rec me some fic for some of the rare pairing in the Walking Dead? (Like Andrea/Daryl, Andrea/Rick, Rick/Daryl(why is this so rare? I'm mean unf), Glenn/Maggie (dude its canon WHY CAN'T I FIND STUFF?), Carol/Shane, etc)

Mars Bar Nougat!

Oh Fandom Secrets, the greatest thing! I can make the squishy nougat in mars bars! Now I must find the right kind of caramel (caramelised condensed milk wasn't right).

It goes like this:

1) Get medium saucepan. If it's like mine, give it a good scrub before using, as any little 'bits' in it can muck up the sugar syrup. Tip in 1 cup/200g sugar, add a good big squirt from a bottle or massive table spoon from a room temperature tin of golden syrup (corn syrup would probably work too). Add about 8tbsp/120ml/half cup water. Put over low heat, with occasional stirring with a chopstick of similar, until all is dissolved.

2) While waiting, separate an egg so you have the white in a very clean pretty big mixing bowl. Have ready an electric mixer with very clean beaters. Any fat, grease, or yolk will spoil the fluffy egg white. Stick the unbroken yolk in a glass and cover with a bit of cold water, stick in fridge until you decide what to do with it: you won't need it here.

3) Melt 25g dark chocolate, then add a generous tablespoon of Ovaltine or Horlicks powder (malted milk drink). Keep in bowl to one side.

4) Line a tin or tray with silicone paper or similar greaseproof paper. Or foil, I guess.

5) When your sugar has all dissolved, stick a lid on your pan and turn up the heat a little. Let it form condensation on the lid and drip down the sides for about 5 mins, then take the lid off, turn the heat up, and let that sucker bubble. Have a fairly wide shallow glass nearly full of very cold water, and some teaspoons, standing by. Test your syrup every few minutes by sticking a teaspoon in and dripping a tiny drop into your glass. When you get soft balls forming, whisk your egg white to soft peaks. Test the syrup again, and it's probably hard ball now. Either way, it's ready.

6) Get the pan in one hand, and whisk your (hopefully heavy) bowl of egg whites with the other. Slowly and steadily pour the hot (BE VERY CAREFUL) sugar syrup near the edge of the whisked egg whites, and whisk each bit of syrup straight into the whites. You want it whisking straight in, no hanging around. When all the syrup has been added, keep whiskingfor a minute or so as it cools and starts to get thicker.

7) Quickly, before it gets too thick, add your chocolate and malted milk powder, whisk in. Then tip straight out into your linned tin. I tend to stick another piece of silicone paper on top and press it flat. It will cool and set quite quickly, so it won't be long before you're eating it.

This really is super easy, I found. But I don't want any burns on my conscience: if you get burnt, you stick your burnt bit right under the running cold tap for at least 15 minutes, even if it doesn't hurt yet. Especially if you got syrup on you. Straight away, even if it means you don't get to finish making it. I suddenly have visions of maimed teenagers with third degree burns D: Hot sugar syrup is nepalm, kids.

Misanthropy

I'm not talking about the kind people claim to have so they can post on goth message boards. I genuinely hate people. All people. No exceptions. They scare me.

I don't do anything outwardly hurtful to anybody, but only because I don't want to embrace the specific traits about people that I hate (i.e.: treating each other like shit; won't go into details because they're triggering and I don't have nearly enough scotch on hand right now, but that is quite literally all I have ever seen growing up). But I do avoid any kind of unnecessary interaction. I don't talk to coworkers unless it's job-related, I've cut off all communication with my family (because Reasons), and I avoid making friends at all costs. The only place I feel safe interacting with anybody is online, because I'm effectively nobody.

And...I'm tired of feeling like this. Being avoidant is getting harder. I'm legit depressed, and have no one to talk to because I'm too scared to trust anybody.

I guess I want to know if anyone here has ever gone through this, and if so how did you get out of it?

I wish more people on tumblr would credit the fanart they reblog. I have a massive folder full of awesome fanart I found on tumblr, and less than half of those pictures were credited. I want to know who made them so I can see more from those artists! :(

Six degrees of Sherlock Holmes

With all of this talk of Elementary/Sherlock lately, I've stumbled on something odd. You know that game, Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, where any actor living or dead can be connected to Kevin Bacon? Well, I've started to realize that you can connect all the Sherlock adaptations together.

Like you take Moffat's Sherlock, you can tie that to Elementary because Cumberbatch and Lee Miller were both in the same stage play, Frankenstein. Or you can go Martin Freeman was in Hot Fuzz with Simon Pegg who was Run, Fat boy, Run which starred Hank Azaria who is in The Simpsons which had Lucy Liu as a guest voice.

Then you can connect Guy Ritchie's Sherlock by saying Jude Law starred in it and he was in the BBC TV movie, Love, Honor and Obey with Jonny Lee Miller.

You can even go with Star Trek: The Next Generation's version of Data and Geordie playing Holmes and Watson by saying that Brent Spiner played Holmes and he was in Independence Day with Jeff Goldblum who guest starred on Friends which starred Matt Leblanc who was in the series, Joey with Lucy Liu.

You want The Great Mouse Detective? Besides having Basil Rathbone as a voice for Sherlock Holmes. You have Barrie Ingham, he voiced Basil, who was also guest starred on Star Trek: The Next Generation. And we've already made that link through that show.

Sherlock Hound? Well, some of those episodes were directed by none other than Hayao Miyazaki. Hayao Miyazaki directed Kiki's Delivery Service. One of the English dub voice actors for that movie was Kirstin Dunst, who was in How to Lose Friends and Alienate People with Simon Pegg, who as we've mentioned before was in Hot Fuzz with Martin Freeman.

I know there are a ton more adaptations but I think there is a connection to all of them. Can anyone else come up with other connections?

Your views on concrit

Since this barely got any responses yesterday, let's try this again. People of f!s, what is your opinion of concrit? Should it be given if the author made no specific mention of either wanting or not wanting it? Would your reaction on getting it change depending on whether you asked for it or not? When is it appropriate to give concrit?

Personally, I couldn't understand for a long time why people wouldn't want concrit. Maybe it's just because I've always taken writing very seriously, but I always thought that concrit was one of the best things you could get. After reading a few secrets and such on it I now get that some people are just here to have fun and don't really care about improving, but I still don't quite get why they would actively get mad about concrit. I mean, once your stuff is on the Internet, unless you specifically said "no concrit" (which I really don't get why you would), it's fair game.

I don't think the average for-fun artist or writer gets *mad* at random crit. Lots of people *ignore* random crit but it's not like we go attack the crit-giver or something.

Unless the crit-giver makes a big stink about how they weren't listened to, which is a whole other entitlement ballgame.

I swear, sometimes I think the creators of reality tv are just drunkenly throwing darts at a board of ridiculous ideas anymore.
