Okay folks. So last time, we cancelled christmas cause I was actually doing stuff with family. Not this time! This time I'm all free do get this done. So that's what we are going to do!

It's still the holiday season till new years! So it's not too late for festive crap! So... we are going to play what I would have played last week!

First off... I am always amused by the idea that some blind gramdma got the two movies with the same name mixed up: Jack Frost. One is about a dead father who comes back as a snowman for the sake of his child. The other is about a dead psycho who comes back as a snowman for the sake of MURDER.

So I just saw the Hobbit: why all the hate from critics? Sure it was slow and ponderous and a bit repetitive, but so were all of the other LotR movies. Is it selective amnesia?

Or is it just the bellyaching about the 48 fps? I went to a showing where they used that framerate and while yes, of course it looked different, and a bit more like videogames (as most of them are in 30-48, sometimes even 60 fps) the textures were incredible. Much more lifelike. This is definitely where movies are headed.

I have two interviews set up for this week and one of them is for an assistant manager position and I'm FREAKING THE FUCK OUT.

I mean, I'm happy that I'm getting interviews at all, and I know realistically I'm probably not going to get called back because they probably have more qualified people they're interviewing (even though my partner says I am qualified), but holy fuck I can't stop flipping out and being scared as fuck ;;

Interview tips or funny stories would really calm me down right now, if you'd be so kind, f!s ;3;

Yesterday there was a GC comment asking for opinions on Torchwood: Children of Earth and it got me thinking about how I can hate a great story that is excellently executed and has basically no major flaws simply because it's so utterly cynical and bleak. Which reminded me of the movie "The Last Emperor", which I despise for similar reasons despite the fact that I completely understand all the reasons for why people say it's a great movie, and having no actual criticisms to make. And then I thought of the show "Six Feet Under" which I hate the same way.

Anyone else have experiences like this with certain fictional works?

I haven't been taking my antidepressant meds. Complete backslide. I don't think I have it in me to explain to the people around me that I haven't been doing this, but I'm out of my main prescription. It's finally reached the point where I think it may be out of my system again, because I can't sleep longer than two hours in a row or eat a full meal. My therapist will be so pissed if she finds out, but (as I've mentioned anon previously) I won't be seeing her until the 8th.

There's a lot of reasons why I don't have the willpower to take care of myself. There's not many why I should.

Once again, real life keeps getting in the way of everything else- I had a relapse, and three days after I was discharged from the hospital, my step-grandmother had a stroke. She's doing alright now, and I'm back home again, but I'm also very tired.

I just wanted to wish everyone a happy New Year, since I don't know when I'll have time to log on again. Cheers, and here's to a great 2013.

As someone who reads a lot of fantasy, I'm afraid to say that yes, that concept sounds a bit too formulaic to me, and isn't something I'd usually be excited about reading (assuming it all proceeds as planned, and there are no twists to throw it off course). However there's lots of things you can do to make it more tempting, such as creating unique cultures/environments/magic systems, and a strong and interesting cast of characters.

Have you ever read Limyaael's fantasy rants? They're a really good resource for writers, with advice on heaps of different topics.
