Common Tags Authors and Websites Use

• Fandom: The fandom (or fandoms) in which the fic takes place [ex. Fandom: Supernatural]
• Genre: Describes what category a fic will be [ex. Humor, Drama, Crack, PWP] CLEAR ENOUGH?
• Language: what language the fic is in
• Rating: Used indicate in a general way what audiences the fic is appropriate for. Websites differ in what rating system they use. This will cover the most common
o MORE INFO NEEDED
• Characters: Is used to tell readers what characters will be in the fic [ex. Characters: Batman, Superman, and the Joker]
o Not all websites allow writers to tag all their characters. Fanfiction.net allows writers to list two of their characters for searching purposes. In this case, choose the two (or one) most important characters in the fic.
• Pairing: Used to describe relationships that will be part of the fic (see Relationships for use of ‘/’ vs ‘&’)
o Non-romantic pairings will usually only be included in this section if the focus of the fic is on the relationship (every friendship does not need to be indicated)
o For a fic with multiple romantic relationships, the main relationships are listed first with other background relationships following
•Summary: A two to three sentence paragraph summarizing the plot of a fic to readers. This is used to hook readers into reading your fic. NEEDS MORE INFO
•Format: NEEDS DEF
o Drabble: Originally used for fics that are exactly 100 words long. Now used by many for any extremely short story (usually less than 500 words).

For Rating system: I know the two main ones used are the FF.net version (+ the no longer used NC-17) and the Ao3 version. LJ users generally use one of these two systems (are a combination).

Should I present each system as they are on the site with no expanding?

Or should I combine the two (ex. K/K+/E and M/Mature and E/NC-17) and explain them together. If this case I will need help concisely defining each rating.

Or some other way?

Watched Dredd last week and enjoyed it very much. The visual effects of a slo-mo high was a nice touch. Also, was very amused by Urban's perpetual scowl - looked like really put an effort in. *grin* I also loved Anderson! She was kick ass and I really enjoyed that there wasn't any romancy stuff with her and Dredd. So grateful that TPTB listened to the creator on that particular point.

On the other hand I'm soooo shipping them, despite everything. Embarassing, yes. At least I prefer it understated and/or subtexty, so I'm not totally failing, right..? There is shortage of fic, though. Boo...

Any advice on not being bitchy, f!s? Lately I've been prone to bitchiness around my parents (my dad especially, partly because he's being especially irritating, partially because I generally have a tendency to internalize anger towards my mother and externalize it towards my father). I'm living with my parents temporarily, which isn't really helping, although apart from my own bitchiness the living arrangements themselves aren't really a problem. (It's only for a couple of months, and I'm actually generally enjoying it, as I haven't been able to see my parents as much as I wanted to in the past year and have a really decent relationship with them under normal circumstances, regardless of a couple of things we'll never see eye to eye on). I just keep reverting to my 14 year old self whenever I'm the least bit irritated rather than dealing with it as my (hopefully more mature) mid-twenties self, and it's driving me up the wall.

First off, I learned something today. If you have stayed up until 4 AM the previous night, and complain about it to your friends, they will ask why. The answer you should probably not give them is a drowsy, half-aware, "Reading Skyrim porn." Also, it will not be as easy as you think to backpedal out of having said this. *facepalm*

But I need help, F!S. I have the Jagged Crown and started off being a Stormcloak, but I'm aware that I can "cash in" the crown for a place in the Imperial Legion. My problem is this: I don't know which side to pick.

I mean, religious freedom is nice, but so is not being racist. And either way the fucking Thalmor win. But both sides have good points and I just keep going back and forth and I can't decide ARGH. And on the one hand Ulfric's a great guy and he has that heartwrenching speech on why he's doing all this, but on the other Jarl Balgruuf's really cool too and I don't want to disappoint him and I'm pretty sure if I'm a Stormcloak I have to take over his city.

(I'm aware I could make another character and do both, but I like to play the first character I make with my actual feelings on whatever subject, and leave the RPing for later ones.)

So, those of you that have played Skyrim, which did you choose and why? Or if you haven't played Skyrim but know generally what's going on, which do you think I should choose and why? (Note that I haven't played beyond getting the Jagged Crown, so please keep spoilers past there to a minimum.)

I don't ever get hungover, or throw up, and I rarely get smashed, but whenever I've had just a little too much to drink, I always have this problem where I fall asleep quickly but wake up in the middle of the night and feel PANICKED. I don't know if it's heart burn or if I've mysteriously woken up in the middle of a panic attack that started in my sleep, but it feels AWFUL and it makes me a little afraid to drink. My chest feels really tight and it hurts, and my heart hurts, and I feel really freaked out (though I can't decide which is the cause and which is the effect). Does this happen to anyone else? What IS this?

A while back I made a personal comment that someone didn't like and they responded by attacking me, which of course started wank. I never got involved in any of that but some people posted some very nice and understanding comments about my personal situation in reply to upthread comments of mine. The whole thread was killed before I could respond to them but I really appreciate the kind words from everyone. The personal situation that was causing me so many problems has been resolved and everyone's kindness came back to me when it happened. Thank you to everyone who has ever been kind to a stranger or someone you had trouble relating to. You make the world a better place when you do that.

I was curious about Community (and whoops started wank about Donald Glover!) a while back.

To me it's incredibly icky. I've seen authors deal a bit with the whole rights thing, and the world building could've interesting especially when they start going against the so called mandated roles in society... but the whole biology added aspects make it a lot squickier than just the social implications. Because it's usually accompanied by knotting and then they add my usual no go button that it's the mpreg one and ... ugh...

Still, my only desire is that people keep labelling them correctly, so I know what to avoid. Other than that, yes, I totally agree with YKINMK but I do get the wish to discuss the more problematic aspects of the arrangement too.

Hey all,

I'm not really sure this is the place to post this, but it was a best guess kind of thing?
I've been following the comm for a while, and I'm loving the posts on here, though I haven't actually managed to post one of my own yet. It seems like all you guys are pretty good group and I was wondering if anyone would be able to lend me a hand with something?

I'm studying for a postgrad course, and I was wondering if anybody would be interested in talking to me about the fandom and how media has helped it grow (stuff like livejournal, tumblr and all that)? It's mostly about the social element of fandoms, so how people find the pages online and interact on them, so how sharing and threads work kinda thing. I was also interested in putting in something about writer/beta reader relationships and how that works with respect to meeting/interacting, because I really don't know much about that and it seems like there's a level of trust in that.

It probably wouldn't take too long and everything will be anon'd after. I'd offer gifts, but I'm not sure what I have in terms of online worth lol.

If it sounds interesting to anyone, then a reply or a pm would be great :D
