[Horrible Histories]

I understand. While I love horrible histories, it does sometimes feel a little childish. That being said, I do believe it helped me pass second year ancient Greek history exam.
As a history major who often has profs take everything they teach as the best thing in the world and SUPER SERIOUS BUISNESS! it's fun to be able to laugh at the subject. Plus, it's about the stupid parts of history that are often forgotten behind people, places, things and events. Throw in musical theatre and I am sold.

it sounds like you just have shitty luck with your "shows I like" to "good crossovers" ratio

the thing you mentioned about crossovers ruining the feel/atmosphere/etc. is what happens with shitty crossovers; the really good ones integrate both universes so seamlessly you wonder why they weren't created together in the first place

About the only thing they got right was the short hair--although Beth was still pretty kickass in the movie, just not looking the same as in the book.

Albeit both movie and book were total mindfucks in the best way. Man, I love Sphere. Underappreciated sci-fi novel/flick.
