I've never heard of this comic until a few weeks ago. It's been plastered all over tumblr and whatnot lately, and I just don't understand how this makes sense. Is it really about a really racist white woman who didn't want her children to have "black features", but for some reason chose a black man to be the father of her children/Marry a black man? And then hates one of her kids for having "black features"? Is she supposed to be a really dumb racist or...? I don't understand how this works?

What's the ratio of fic you write to fic you actually post?

Like, I know that I write a lot of shameless self-insertion and id-fic that I never have the guts to inflict on fandom...more in some fandoms than others. I think the ratio is at least 50/50 for me.

...but are supposed to be a good guy and are for the most part a good guy apart from some details, a) are they really a douche, and b) do you care if they're written non-douchily in fanfic? Can characters who fall prey to bad writing, but who are not ALWAYS written badly, be "reclaimed"?

Yes, sort of inspired by the Sherlock secret, but I can think of a lot of examples of this, from really old books written under different eras with outdated sensibilities, to stuff like crappy writers in a multi-writer 'verse, like Chuck Austen or Mark Millar in superhero comics, or particular writers of various TV shows.

Scary Closing Logos

A few years ago, my boyfriend and I had a conversation about how the Viacom logo freaked us out as kids. Later, I found out that other people were also scared of the Viacom logo... But it was a different one. Everyone talks about the "V of Doom," but that one is actually pretty tame. The shiny zig-zaggy one from the 90s with the booming "VIACOM" voice was pure terror. That aside, I was interested to find that a lot of people were scared of various closing logos as kids. When so many people are scared by something so innocuous, it makes you wonder what, if anything, is behind it. Is it the combination of unfamiliar words/phrases and that weird fucking music all of them seemed to have? WTF is so scary about a bunch of sounds and shapes?

Honestly, I thought closing logos in general were kind of ominous, but only if they were made in a certain era (mid 80s-mid 90s). There was a particular sinister feel to them.

tl;dr, what logos haunt your nightmares? Did the New World Television logo with the shiny mercury ocean weird you out a little? Did you think the Random House sounded like a bad, scary place? (I sure did.)

Should you apply critical thinking to a story a friend tells you when they're only looking for sympathy, not advice?

How did you spend the first day of the new year?

I know it doesn't really set the tone for the rest of the year or whatever but this day feels significant to me for whatever silly reason.

I spent it either getting some closure with an ex-friend I had a fight with months ago or beginning some kind of reconciliation with said friend. I guess we'll see how it goes. I also got a start on my resolution to knit and crochet more for charity: crocheted a blanket square for Knit-A-Square. So that feels good.

I have an elaborate and on-going fantasy in which I am married to this man [Aragorn] (I don't even really know why, aside from finding Viggo/Aragorn attractive). In that fantasy we are pretty well-off, live in a huge house on the country-side, but most importantly, we have a ton of kids. A few of them are biologically ours, but most of them are adopted or foster kids (with all the issues that can come along with that). These are our kids:

I'm talking about little kid versions of them, of course, not their adult-selves (most of them are between 5 and 13 years old). Nothing particularly exciting ever happens in these fantasies. I play with the children, do arts and crafts stuff with them, bake cookies with them, read books to them, comfort them when they've had a nightmare, just parental stuff. The rest of the kids are Original Characters or athletes and musicians no one on Fandom Secrets knows or cares about.

There's also John Watson in this universe, a family friend (and our family doctor!). He and Sherlock are a couple and have 2 young kids (twins; Sherlock knocked up a client during one of his cases). John also has a twin brother named Bilbo (an accountant) who's married to Thorin (a mechanic). Together they raise Thorin's nephews Fíli and Kíli (whose parents died in a car crash).

Secret Because: Well, that's just bizarre. Especially because I've been having these kinds of fantasies in some form or another (with characters changing with the fandoms I'm in) since I was in elementary school myself (I'm 24 now).

Bonus Secret: I home-school most of our children, plus Fíli and Kíli (Kíli has some learning disabilities and behavior issues, which led to him not doing well in public school... okay, I'll stop now.)
