I've got to be entirely honest, this might be the nail in the coffin for my following of and participation in the major feminist blogs.

The fact that the conversation has turned into why she might have attacked Jay Z, making excuses for her, and using language talking about "altercation", or argument or a million other things which imply it was anything but one sided disgusts me.

If it was him attacking her, any one of these suggestions would have led to a literal explosion of outrage, whereas all this has led to is cries of "you must be an MRA, not the same, teh menz etc" when the sheer hypocrisy has been pointed out.

So I recently read a post on a feminist blog that compared drag shows to blackface because drag shows are heterosexual men taking on exaggerated female stereotypes and mocking them.

I consider myself a feminist, but I'm not sure whether or not I agree with this. I guess because I don't actually know the motives of the men doing it and whether it is meant to be an expression of their own sexuality and gender or whether it is meant to be mocking as the poster assumed.

I feel like there is a difference, I think, in taking on socialized stereotypes as opposed to the actual skin color, and also a difference in the history of blackface as opposed to drag shows, but I'm not sure how to articulate it.

but my birthday is coming up, and my Dad and I have had plans for a really long time, since it's a significant birthday, so I was really getting excited, and making plans for how I was going to get down to my home town for my birthday, so I could actually celebrate my birthday on the day of for once.

Then my dad sends me a video link that I have to watch before I come down- the weekend after- and my brother just happens to find out about a midterm that he has on my birthday, and I feel like their planning something, which is great and all, but...

I still feel kind of bad that I don't get to celebrate my birthday on my actual birthday, and I know it's really stupid, because I still get to celebrate it! But I've been looking forward to it for a couple years now, so even the tiny change in schedule is making me feel kind of bad, even though I know that it's really dumb to feel bad.

I just needed to tell someone, even though I know it's a stupid thing to have bugging me.
