What're you playing lately?

I finished up Prototype, so now I'm playing Trent Reznor's Greatest Hits.

Though I think they originally called it Quake.

It's funny. I played this religiously between 1997 and 2003, barely touched it since, and I'm still amazed by how much of this crap I still remember. I'm using Darkplaces, with real-time lights. This boob is using HD textures which I think look like ass (I will never not hate HD texture upgrades for retro games) but the RTlights really add to the game's atmosphere, I think.

so there's this post going around tumblr by a person saying they're blind and asking if it would be ok for them to cosplay. It's got well over 100k notes, most of them positive, but I can't help sit there and think "...how??" when I read it. It's got to be a troll, right? How would a blind person know what the costume looked like, how would they know if their cosplay was right, why would costumes even be a thing for them?

I've come back from my trip today (and still sort of reluctant from reality). It's sort of a weird day, all in all, but also within about 15 minutes of each other I found out that one of my good friends got engaged, and one of my good friends lost his father. The two things are obviously unrelated, but it makes you think about life. F!S, ever had both good and bad news on the same day? Things that were completely opposed to each other? Tell/share/vent?

Okay so I've finally joined (sorta) the modern world and got a relatively modern android phone (I had an android before, but it was ancient), and it has the ability to actually do stuff like play games without freezing up. So! Any recs on good games?

I like casual games (Candy Crush type) because I play on my breaks at work a lot, but classic JRPGs are the key to my heart and I'd love a rec for those. I know that some Final Fantasy games are available but the reviews of the ports vary greatly.

It's an 88 degree evening.

The Death of Pro Wrestling?

Looks like we're heading into the apex of the death spiral of pro wrestling with TNA being cancelled on Spike TV and horrible numbers due out about the WWE network this week. Rumor has it the numbers will cause NBC/Universal to cancel RAW and SMACKDOWN and that ladies and gentlemen, will be the end of that human cockfighting sport known as Pro Wrestling.

The Death spiral that began with that wife and baby killer Chris Benoit.

Now if we could get rid of that other Cockfighting sport that calls itself MMA/UFC for good.

Fic revision etiquette ?

So I finished a long fic a few years ago that I just looked over again. It has a lot of typos and missing words in it, and also a couple of things that I'd just like to change slightly, both sentence structure and some small details.

Is it ok to just go in and change them? Should I add an author note saying this was revised on [date] for x and y? What if I wanted to make bigger changes, like deleting chapters or adding new ones? How important is it that I follow the right protocols in revising?

Help me not commit a fandom faux pas!

Hello! I don't normally post much - well, I do, anonymously, but that's another thing entirely - but I thought I should break out the account for this. In case you haven't heard, Simon's Cat, the great little animation series, is doing a fundraiser for an 11 minute colour film!

Here it is, on Indiegogo.

It's fixed funding, so it doesn't get made if they don't get all the funds in. They've got some really cracking rewards, including signed books, and a plushie, and if you've enjoyed their videos before and have some spare cash then do consider kicking a bit over their way! They have 9 days to go and still have about £72k out of £250k to go. I really hope they make it!

Based on feedback, I'm going to include tiebreaker losers automatically in next month's poll, so there are two books - Para Handy and The Lunar Men - that will automatically be included in September's poll.

Also based on feedback, there will be a two month cooldown for all non-tiebreaker books that didn't make the cut, and they will only be included if they are re-recced. For example, a book that wasn't one of the three tiebreaker choices for August can go back on the poll for the month of November, but only if someone recs it again that month! If you think the cooldown should be shorter/longer, let me know, but that's what it is for the time being.

We have several recs for September so far, but recs will still be open until the end of the month! The poll for September will start at the beginning of August. I work the first few days of August, but I will see if I can get Bigpaw or someone else to post it those couple of days so it gets up on time.
