Question for writers

So I'm wondering if other writers have the same problem I'm having. The problem where when you actually have time to write you have no ideas. And yet when your RL is the busiest and you have no time for writing all of a sudden you have a dozen fic ideas that you really want to write.

I've heard that this happens because when you're busy with stuff, it stimulates your brain more so it starts thinking about stuff other than the thing you're doing too, which is what leads to you getting your best ideas when you're busiest. I always seem to get my best ideas right in the middle of exams.

E-books, where do you get them?

I wanna fill up my kindle, but ebooks on Amazon are just as expensive if not more than the hardcopies. I get why the price is comparable, but it still sucks seeing people sell used hard copies for a penny, and then the kindle edition is twenty dollars. I can't really buy new physical books right now or use the local library, but is there a comparable system for ebooks? I know some local libraries have that system but mine doesn't. Or another place to get free/cheap ebooks, preferably not limited to old stuff? Where do you get your stuff?

Psychics/the supernatural/"readings" thread

Do you think you're the sort of person inclined to believe in things like psychics, astrology, the supernatural, ghosts, etc? Would you ever visit someone like a tarot reader or someone who claims to communicate with the dead? Do you check your horoscope?

Myself, I'm 100% skeptic and think it's all bogus, but my imagination is ridiculously fantasy oriented so I think I still have that part of me that's really fascinated by the concept. I don't believe it, but a part of me wants to. I've always wanted to have my tarot cards read just for the fun of it.

Dream kinda freaking me out

I dreamed last night that I slept with my friend's husband and had his kids. This is the second time I've had a dream like that, and there is enough "do not want" in that concept to keep me cringing for the rest of my life, for various reasons. I'm scared it means something somehow, but I don't know what it could mean, other than "you secretly want to have your friend's husband's kids" which...sounds about as appealing to me as eating unsanded wood covered in broken glass and infested with bugs and poison ivy.

Why is this happening and how do I stop it (or at least not feel so freaked out by it)? I know it's just a ridiculous dream but an irrational part of me worries that if my subconscious shows it, I must somehow want it. Ugh.

Fics for tiny/unusual fandoms

Unusual being canons that might be popular, but that don't attract fanwork, or if they do, only a bit of fanart. For both, no active comms, or no comms, and nothing fannish currently going on in Tumblr tags.

- How do you come across these?

I just check AO3/FFN tags if I happen to be reminded of the canons. But I don't check often.

- How could a writer promote these?

I've written a very short crossover with a canon like this (I'd prefer not to name it). It got hits and a few kudos on AO3, and I'm satisfied with that! But it was crossed over with an active fandom, so I guess that's the main reason anyone saw it. If I did something more elaborate for a similar canon, where would be good to announce it?

I don't have an active Tumblr presence, but I could still post the details and link in the tag in case anyone's tracking it. And I could post to DW multi-fandom comms like gensplosion. I just want to hear what you'd do.

For the record, whether I write it doesn't depend on whether anyone sees it, with or without promotion elsewhere. If I still like the idea, I'll start. If I can finish and think it's good enough to post, I'll post it. I agree with what others said in past threads here, that readers don't owe writers, but hoping for reads and feedback after writing a fic isn't doing it wrong.
