Apparently May is full of birthdays because I will be going to my nephew's party this Sunday (which means delicious cake). I also bought some chocolate oranges and want to bake something with them (ideas welcome).

Do you have any local urban legends or stories that seem ripe to become urban legends?

For the past I'd say two years, there have been markings/phrases spray painted onto the local main road through where I live (it connects many towns and villages). There are white hearts and black hearts, messages along the lines of "I always love you", "Love always", "Miss you", etc. My fave was outside the town where I work: "Welcome to Liar's Town". There have also been hearts spray painted on some telephone poles. I had no idea who was doing them, figured it was probably a woman.

The kinda weird thing was, I'd always see new markings in the morning. Never in the afternoon or evening. Anyhow a couple months ago was at a small committee meeting at work and somehow these came up. The story my supervisor told us was that she heard was that it was a woman and she was a witch. She'd met this guy (who lives on this main road) and had fallen in love with him--only he wasn't interested in her. So these are hexes or spells that she's putting on the road. "And it's spooky cus she does at night and no one has caught her," sayeth my boss. It's not really that surprising she doesn't get caught since it's a rural area with limited cop presence.

I could kinda see this turning into an urban legend in the not too distant future--with embellishments, I'm sure.

I have the perfect plan for this. I just need to find a way to suggest cats cause autism. Can you imagine flamewars that would erupt from that.

So I heard about this study last week that said if you had a cat or spent even any short time with one you have a 47.4% increased chance of having a child with autism. And that is for men, the cat's immune system antigens compromises your lungs and then your lymph nodes which leads to seminal mutations. For a woman, inhaling cat skin flakes or coming into skin to skin contact with a cat cheek-scent marking her the risk rises to 76.2% and that risk persists throughout the first two years of your baby's life. Autism could be decreased by two thirds by ensuring that cats were excluded from men and women of procreational age's lives. Even third party contact via a co-worker who has a cat could give your baby autism.

Please, post this widely, we must tackle the menace of aspergers and autism to our society. Simply getting rid of cats is a small price to pay for tackling such a huge health crisis!

Especially now that TV shows (and Netflix series etc) have been becoming increasingly respectable and big-budget, can you think of any books that would be impossible to satisfyingly adapt as a movie, but which you would totally watch if it was a TV series? (miniseries or otherwise).

Pairings where the taller and/or bigger person is the bottom more?
