Hillary and the mainstream DNC actively tried to smear Bernie Sanders by calling him an atheist. I don't know which is worse, the blatant pandering to the religious or... No, it is the pandering. The smearing is par for the Hillacourse. But making it seem like not being deluded enough to believe in a big beard in the sky is the bad thing? Fuck.

You know, back in the 1990s we had those people on the run. Then we started with this "tolerate your right to believe" bullshit and let them all back in through the cracks in the concrete.

Star Trek Beyond

Just saw Star Trek Beyond on Saturday and it was way more entertaining than I was expecting! I think the reeboot movies are going the opposite way of the original/TNG movies and the odd ones are the good ones (although I didn't really dislike Into Darkness, just liked it less - I guess time and more movied will tell). I loved that they gave Chekhov decent screentime, even it wasn't an intentional reaction to Yelchin's death. I loved the lady with the black stripes. I still love Scotty and his wee hetero life partner.

I loved how when Spock gets hurt, McCoy doesn't miss a beat and keeps grumping and complaining while fashioning a way to cauterize the wound without pause to think about what to do or narration of what he's doing. Also, there's something kind of precious about Spock saying "horse shit."

One good thing about Trump as President

One good thing about Trump as President is that while he might not improve things in the way some of his supporters think, but at least the pain will be better shared. Unlike Hillary who'll do her damnedest to shield the financial classes from the effects of her inaction on social movement, Trump will want his financial rivals to suffer. Those at the top are going to take a big tumble too. That guy on the breadline next to you will be the hedgefund manager who took your house and pension. That is going to be fucking delicious, like the end of Trading Places. Make the Mighty Fall in November.

I was reading fic for a fandom I'm new too, just sort of browsing around and seeing who had the most reads, reviews, what have you, to see what I might like. I came across a person who looked to have the most fics in the fandom, so I clicked on one of hers. It was a smut fic, but it was a freaking wall of text. So I thought they were a noob writer, and left a review praising their efforts with a suggestion that they put spaces between the lines so readers could better read it.

Her reply? "Thanks, but no." Because she wanted to make it "look like a novel."

So I went to her AO3 profile, thinking she was 12 or 13, only to discover she was an English teacher.........

I'm screaming. I hate this so much. I had to complain here. I even tried to further politely explain myself out of sheer frustration, and she never replied. What the hell???

Good LGBT media?

Well, I don't exactly mean "LGBT media" per se, but media featuring queer characters. I am so bored of coming out stories and gay Romeo and Juliets, where the story is entirely about being gay - not that it can't be done well, I just want to see more of a variety! Movies, books, games - anyone have any good recs? Particularly with the queer characters being leads.

I just watched a really lovely Thai film called "How to Win at Checkers (Every Time)" (it's on Netflix), and while there was a lot of gay, the gayness itself was never an issue or treated as a major plot point. I feel like lesbian films are still few and far between, though - can't help but always feel they are straight male "art" films most of the time that generally just make me cringe.

I've been playing the shit out of The Phantom Pain lately (I got shipped off to basic when it came out, so I'm late to the party, I know) and it has reignited my eternal love of Bosselot something fierce. Anyone got good recs for that pairing, set anywhere in the series?

No but for real though they've been my MGS otp since literally forever and when Ocelot was like "She's fallen in love with the legend - I was the same way, once," I just about died. Bosselot > Snake/Otacon 4ever. The Phantom Pain heaps so much fuel on this fire I cannot even decide whether or not I hate or love Kojima.

I didn't get much feedback last time about book club discussion. I can do it Sunday the 31st or a weekday following that (the 1st, 2nd or 3rd). What are your preferences, for those who are planning to discuss Para Handy?

Some non-helpful feedback here. Because of my timezone I will only be able to comment on the book discussion on the following morning/day anyway, so it really doesn't make much of a difference to me. But I am reading Para Handy at the moment and plan to participate. But late, as always, of course.

Well, I guess if the others don't care either way, you should simply choose which date is best for you.
