I have so many issues with the fashion industry. I get that it is an art form and that designers are artists. But at the same time, they are designing clothes for actual people to wear. And yet so often fashion is just treated like art and like the person who wears them is merely the canvas the designer uses to display their art.

It comes out a lot in how designers so often design for only a small range of sizes. And how they complain if having to design for women who aren't model size. But it comes out in a lot of other ways too. And it isn't just about size discrimination. And I think a lot of commentary on sizism in fashion misses the bigger picture of treating women's bodies as canvases and of designers forgetting they are designing for actual people.

I hate how fandom's become so commercialized. Even collaborate stuff like zines are for profit now and everyone's got a patreon or ko-fi. I get that the economy sucks and it's a symptom of a greater problem, but man.

I wish so many of the recap podcasts for shows weren't non-spoiler. I think that costs them so much potential for deeper conversations.

The Last Jedi will be vindicated by history. People will see what it tried to do and at least appreciate the attempt in storytelling changes.

I need to work on having zero expectations when watching anime. Not every anime can be top tier like Sarazanmai, some anime simply will never be as popular. Not to mention when I read about the issues the anime industry has with overwork I feel guilty for complaining about the difference in quality, even if they contribute in some anime flying under the radar while others get all the praise.

None of your money actually goes to animators and very little goes to the production company, when you buy a crunchyroll sub, so your money's best spent on supporting the occasional animator project. Importing blu-rays or merch is better than a sub, but still not ideal, as most of it goes to the production company and not the animators. TBH, American fans really overstate how much influence they have on the industry.

I don’t know why people insist on seeing LJs heyday as some kind of permissive utopia where nothing was ever verboten. The difference between fandom then and fandom now is that on LJ it was possible to lock entire communities behind walls of disclaimers and invites, and on tumblr the only separation between people who hate a thing and people who love it is tagging something as “thing” or “anti-thing.” I bet discord servers and similar platforms will cut down on pro-vs-anti drama because they don’t have to share the same fandom space.

I get that the main het ship in my fandom just had a big heyday, but it's a really, really bad look for people to crow about how Good and Correct and Obvious a heterosexual marriage is and how much they're "drinking the tears" of all those stupid slash fans. It's gross and alienating and I'm blocking people left and right, but the hurt is still there. I'm a gay woman living in a place that isn't exactly the most lgbt-friendly. I deal with this shit in real life. So many of us do. Why are we not allowed to escape it even in a space that has historically been queer-friendly and a place to explore queer themes and queer love?

I feel like I want to take superhero franchises gently by the hand and tell them that time travel is never the answer. It's never the answer. Stop mashing reset buttons and undoing character development and avoiding consequences and ignoring all logic and/or timelines and inventing time travel rules only to break them ten minutes later. Just. Just stop. If you have written yourself to a point where time travel is the only answer, you have written badly.

Special mention to the MCU and several DC TV shows. X-men I might give a pass, depending on the mood I'm in.

I don't really care about the MCU, haven't seen most of the movies, it's just not my scene and I'm okay with that

BUT there's still a teenaged Marvelfanbky somewhere deep inside that bristles anytime someone suggests that the DC movies are better and cheers anytime the Marvel movies win at the box office

So I started having pins and needles on the right side of my head. And my right hand is a bit weak. I think this is a hemiplegic migraine, but since it is similar to stroke symptoms, I did call downstairs to see if there were any doctors open. One is coming here. I feel like a fucking vampire; every time I spend any time in bright sunlight lately I come home with a headache. I used to get light-triggered migraines and these don’t feel quite as bad—I can look at a dim screen and type words, not just lay in the dark and puke occasionally. But they still suck. They feel kind of sinus-y, except the pain fucking moves around so periodically it engulfs my whole head. I wonder if maybe I’m allergic to something?
