Somebody made a potentially copywrite infringing parody playing card series, and if you missed that generation, IT WAS HUGE! Kids actually cared about trading cards back then... Anyway, they made a movie. It's had 0% on rotten tomatoes and is considered one of the worst of all time! GARBAGE PAIL KIDS!

Speaking of ripoffs, the Muppets show had a counter-response, and no I don't mean Avenue Q, this one is much less popular or clever! But it does have hippo tits and Bunny AIDS! MEET THE FEEBLES!

A few years ago, some guys convinced my town's mayor to proclaim it Smallville for a day thanks to similarities both decent and dubious between Hutchinson, Kansas, and the Smallville presented in a variety of media.

Help visualizing a landscape

Hey guys, help needed on this as I have no sense of scale. I'm writing a fic set on a (magical) island in the Mid-north Atlantic (about 400 miles west of Scotland) and I just am having trouble visualizing it. The island is about 80 miles by 100 miles, and it is 2000ft tall cliffs as its shore (surrounded by a ship rending reef) broken only by a single crack where a river drains from it in a single great waterfall, falling to an interior which varies between 1500 and 1000ft above sea level. Its a literary fandom so there are no visuals except the book jackets, which are not very good for landscapes, and I'm just trying to get a sense of what it would look like.

It is described as being roughly like a diamond, with the top third given over to forest, the mid third is broken rocky heath and scraggly woods of birch, heather, and flag oak where cattle and pigs forage, and the lower third orchards of hazel, apple, soft fruits along with farmland for oats; it is also where the people live.

Is there any website that anyone knows that I can go and create landscapes on and try to get a sense of what it would look like in landscape terms, not to mention trying to work out travel times. The original author does great character stuff and great action scenes, but tends to skip on travel times and landscape descriptions. I'm finding myself with writer's block until I can work out just what the characters ought to be seeing and what sort of traveling they'd be doing. Any help on this would be great.

Growing window sill cukes and I got a question. I know if we are short on insects that you have to pollinate tomatoes using a feather and electric toothbrush cuz they don't give out pollen unless vibrated, is it the same for cukes? The variety is Bush Champion, if that matters.

So I rented a dvd called ‘National Geographic: Birth of Civilization.’ Basically, it’s historical fiction using ancient man to illustrate the birth of towns, religion, power structures, social and economic classes, warfare, and the invention and use of writing. It’s what your history teacher in high school put on after the standardized tests were done and everybody’s brain was fried. Nothing new or exciting.

Except. Except except except.

The last segment detailed a shepherd named Tabor coming to a major city where he meets the scribe Sharkei, who has the adorable habit of tapping his nose with his stylus. Sharkei is a good guy who agrees to teach our young hero how to read and write. They move in together. Sharkei has a job collecting taxes for the king of Mesopotamia. He works with a brute of a soldier who beats up Sharkei’s friend, a weaver because the guy can’t pay his taxes. To help his friend, Sharkei fudges the tax tablet. He’s promptly arrested and thrown in jail. While waiting sentencing, he teaches his fellow inmates how to read.

He’s sentenced to death. While waiting for that to be carried out, Tabor breaks him loose. Sharkei has to flee the city. For some unexplained reason, Tabor can’t go with him, so they part with tears in their eyes. It’s heartbreaking. I yelled at the screen. Tabor gives him a piece of jewelry for protection, and to remember him by.

Sharkei runs into the desert. He almost dies, but is found by Bedouins. They take him in and it is ten years before he returns to the city. There Tabor has become a scribe. He has stolen the adorable habit of tapping the tip of his nose with his stylus. They briefly meet and for a second you think they’ll get back together and all will be well. Sharkei asks Tabor to come with him. It could be the perfect ending.

It doesn’t happen. Tabor decides to stay in the city and teach kids to read, and write a book about history. They part again, and that’s it.

I’m not supposed to want to write fix-it-fic for mediocre National Geographic docudramas, but I do. Curse you, National Geographic. Curse you.

Mine: I finally finished my yard after two and a half months of solid work. There were so many weeds to dig out you guys. There was so much overgrown crap. The plants were in terrible shape. But I did it! And now it looks tidy and everything is growing happily again without being choked to death by weeds!

One thing that really irritates me is when someone tries to correct me on something, thinking they're right, when in reality, I was right all along (or in some cases, there is no real right answer).

I work on a fan comic, and I swear, every couple pages there's this one random person who comes along determined to correct me on something. I fact check every single page I do if I'm not 100% sure about something, and each "correction" this person makes is, in so many words, based on popular fanon depictions or speculation rather than definite facts or canon. Should I just ignore them, or should I flat out block them? Part of me thinks this person is just a kid that doesn't know any better, but either way, I find it rude.
