Am I the only one who finds this idea strange? I sometimes hear stuff about how, if you're a girl, you should find a guy who lives up to your dad, or how it's obvious some woman ended up with someone because he's similar to her dad...

Personally, I don't want someone like my dad. No offense to him. I like my dad. But I know him, and I know myself, and I know I would go crazy if I were in a relationship with someone who has his personality! As it is, we fight enough. I don't want that in a spouse.

I think the idea is that it's usually more subconsious, yeah? Like, you invisibly look for qualities that mirror things about your parents.

It is weird. Very weird. Also, what if your opposite sex parent is the one you are most like? Even if I didn't find it really strange, I still wouldn't try to marry someone like my dad because he and I are alike in ways it would not be good for me to be alike with a partner.

I don't think it's so much that you should but that people often do without trying because your parents (usually) are your earliest role models and so your opposite-sex parent can be the foundation model for the opposite sex and you unconsciously look for people who sort of fit that mold. Obviously, if your opposite-sex parent is a shit head then don't date people like that.

Apparently I'm the weird one here, but I would like to find a guy like my dad. Not because he's like my dad, which is creepy, but because my dad is just a really good person and happens to have the same qualities that I would like in a partner.

For me, I have no interest in my dad that way but I could see myself interested in someone like him. He's genuinely nice, hard working, helpful, earnest, easy going, and as demonstrative as I like. I'd want someone with a lot of dad's skill sets (like fixing anything around the house and being a creative problem solver) and someone as smart as my dad with the same areas of interest because I think the stuff he knows is cool. I mean, there's stuff to improve, but I've spent all my life dealing with those areas so I know what I'm getting into, and I don't find that stuff to be that much of an inconvenience for the greatness of having my dad.

I think it depends on what kind of parents you have. My parents get along very well together but are very different in a lot of ways. They compliment each other. I have a great relationship role model so I would be happy to be able to emulate that. Plus, I've been shaped by my parents in terms of what I value, how I live, etc. so I would want to find someone who also fits into that mold.

I wouldn't mind marrying someone who shared some of either of my parent's good qualities, but the thought of marrying someone that shared either of their worst ones is one reason I'm scared to be in a relationship at all.

I think it makes sense when your dad was cool, but not when your dad was a deadbeat pile of shit whose spine I'll tear out of his fucking body if he ever steps foot in this state like mine was.

I've always found this idea weird, but most of my friends are of that mindset and think it's weird that I don't want a guy like my dad. My dad's a great person and I love him to the moon and back, but our personalities are very similar and we're both very pigheaded, especially when we're arguing over viewpoints. I'd want someone who's way more mellow than that.

I'm going to make some homemade pizza for everyone this weekend! Not sure what toppings yet, but I'll make the dough tomorrow morning. I'll also brush up my resume this weekend so I can start applying for jobs. Probably do some online rental houses hunting as well.

Why does there seem to be so much bad blood between animal rights people and reptile owners?

Every reptile forum and Facebook page I visit has posts complaining about animal rights groups (mostly the Humane Society). I wonder how and why the relationship between these two groups is so sour.

The compressor in my fridge died. And it's cheaper to buy a new fridge than replace the compressor. Except I probably won't be able to get a new one delivered to my house until Wednesday. 'Cause I have no ability to pick one up myself!

I still have air conditioning, I still have electricity, but no fridge! I had to toss out everything.
