I've heard all three and all of them annoy me. It's not like you're saving time or effort, all of them have the same amount of syllables. Also, I don't really like the shorthand anyway, but they sound really silly out loud.

The first time I heard someone use internet slang irl was yeeears ago. Maybe 10 years ago.

People used to say "FAIL" all the time. Now I hear people say "oh my god, I can't even!" or "bae" or anything else that makes me cringe just thinking about it.

being manipulative?

I'm getting to the point where everything I say and do with people feels in some way manipulative unless I just stop wanting anything ever. How do I stop feeling like when I ask someone a simple question I'm asking for something, or when I feel like I wanna vent about a bad day I feel like I'm giving a list of selfish demands. How do I not believe i'm somehow willing myself into feeling sick when I feel bad?

I really wanna not feel like shit considering it's christmas, but for whatever reason all this shit came back up in my mind at work today after I had an anxiety attack.

Maybe it's better to just...not talk to anyone at all?

Minor venting

I have to work tomorrow, and I don’t want to, even though my Christmas isn’t likely to be super stressful or require tons of prep. I dislike my boss, and one of our regulars is awful and hates me and at one point apparently his lawyer got a restraining order against him, but I can’t tell my boss that.

She’d probably whine to the higher-ups that googling the guy’s name, which I wouldn’t know except I have access to it as part of my job, is violating his privacy. He’s been physically violent towards customers and verbally abusive towards other staff as well as me, but she was gonna have him lodge a complaint about me, which won’t work if he’s banned for being an asshole.

He’s only allowed in on sufferance and because when he shoved another customer and cussed her out it was in a blind spot on the cameras, so we have no proof but the word of the shoved customer. And that customer had told my boss to her face that encouraging customers to be nasty to her employees (ie, me) was unprofessional shortly before dickbag shoved her, so my boss took dickbag’s side snd vouched for him to the higher-ups. I really hope he does something on camera that doesn’t hurt anyone but still merits a blanket ban from all our locations so the rest of us and our customers don’t have to deal with his bullshit.

1. What was your initial reaction when the movie started? How did that change by the end of the movie?

1. My reaction through the whole movie, since I have seen it a lot of times can be summed up in this GIF.


2. All the characters are delightful. So, I love them all and I don't have a least favorite. I am going to mention how much I love how fun Oogie Boogie and his kid minions are. All the minor Halloween Town citizens are also great to watch. Especially the butcher with the axe in his head and his mini-me.

3. I think my favorite was when Jack first gets to Christmas Town. Both the imagery and music was delightful. I especially love the elves' reactions to just seeing Jack out of the corner of their eye. XD

4. The music in this is obviously iconic. The only song I am not a 100% a fan of is Sally's Song but that is just because of the voice of the singer. I love the Fiona Apple version and the lyrics.

5. This movie looks amazing! Stop motions is such a cool filming technique and obviously this movie is one of the best. I also love all the different character designs. As I mentioned above, the Halloween Town citizens are all so cool and it seems like I notice a new one every time I watch.

I only watched this for the first time (in full) two months ago -

They were really creative with the cinematography in this. Stop motion definitely allows for creative scenes and shots. Jack's singing voice is nice, but beyond that, I can't say I was a huge fan of this movie. Maybe because it was too hyped by people for years, it just felt kind of long and rambling.

Interestingly, I find many of the people who love this movie seem to find cultural appropriation just "SJW whining" when this movie is basically "respect and admire people's cultures but don't act like you can do it better."

1. First time I ever saw this movie was when I was a kid (we're talking about 9, 10 years old here, not long after the movie came out on VHS). I was at my grandma's place, getting over a nasty fever/cold, and my sister was watching the movie. I was kinda in and out of paying attention 'cause I was all tired and feeling bleh.

Then "What's This?" came on, and there was the line about, "There's children throwing snowballs instead of throwing heads" and I actually remember looking over at the TV like, "...did I hear that right?" And that had me paying a bit closer attention to the rest of the film as a result, because it was just so odd :p. I've seen it I don't know how many times since then, and it's one of my favorite films from my childhood :).

2. I loved Jack Skellington :). I think I had a bit of a crush on him as a kid. And I wouldn't say I liked the guy Sally lived with, but I did find some moments with him kinda funny as a kid.

Least favorite would've been Oogie Boogie simply 'cause he scared me. I like him as a villain now, though. I don't think there's any characters I'd pick as least favorites in this movie now.

3. Favorite scene, hands down, is the moment at the end when Jack joins Sally on the top of the hill. It's so sweet and lovely. I love any moments with that hill in general, just 'cause it's such a cool effect/image and I love the shots of the hill against the huge moon. I also like the moment with Jack in the graveyard after being shot down, when he's regretting his actions, as well as the big showdown between him and Oogie Boogie.

Least favorite...maybe the bugs falling out of Oogie Boogie towards the end, simply 'cause, ick :p? That's about it, though.

4. I love the music in this film. Danny Elfman seemed to play a role in a lot of things I liked as a kid, and this was no exception. I like his singing voice in this movie, I like the dark, weird humor of some of the lyrics, I like the old-timey feel of the songs. The music is definitely one of my favorite things about the film.

5. I'm not an expert on production/cinematography type stuff and whatnot, but I remember seeing a thing once about just how long it took the people who worked on this movie to make the little figurines and do the whole stop-motion animation setup and whatnot, and it was so impressive and interesting. The time and effort put into making this movie showed, and I'm genuinely in awe of people who have the talent for this kind of animation and filmmaking. The animation certainly helped make this movie stand out a little more, too, and added to the weird nature of the story.

So. Yeah. Like I said, this movie will always have a special place in my heart. I'll be interested to read comments about it from people who didn't see the movie as kids, and see what they took away from the film as a result.

I love this movie, it's like a much cooler version of the stop motion Xmas specials I watched as a kid. I never saw it as a kid because I'm too old to have seen it as a kid.
a few thoughts:
I like all the characters even Oogie Boogie because he's fun to watch except for that mad scientist guy who looks like an evil Donald Duck because he treats Sally like crap.
Jack is very expressive for a skeleton.
I can't help wondering what the other holiday towns are like.
if this movie has a moral I think it's "don't copy things you don't fully understand"

Sally, but that's because I have a particular thing for patchwork girls. Jack and Oogie are fun as hell, too. The mayor's literal two-facedness is a fun bit of designwork, but as a character he's pretty boring.

3. What was your favorite scenes? Your least favorite? Why?

My favourite was probably Oogie messing with Santa, because his song is catchy, and the faux-black light design was gorgeous. Least favourite, pretty much anything with Dr Finkelstein. I grant that Sally wouldn't really have anything of an arc without them, but I just don't like him - his type always bug me. At least he was only tertiary.

4. What did you think of the soundtrack and/or score?

I love it. This is Halloween, What is This, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, and Oogie Boogie's Song get caught in my head all the goddamn time. Danny Elfman is a goddamn genius, and the performers do well - even the ones who aren't great singers are given songs where they don't need to be (or even where it would be a detriment - specifically Kidnap the Sandy Claws).

5. What did you think of the production (cinematography, editing, costuming, etc.)?

It is gorgeous. I know Tim Burton's aesthetic isn't to everyone's taste, and over-saturation has caused a lot of people who would otherwise like it to tire of it, but I think even those two groups would agree that this movie needed it (even if it hadn't been developed from his idea to begin with).

1. What was your initial reaction when the movie started? How did that change by the end of the movie?: I like the opening song a lot. One of my favorite parts of the movie. But honestly, asi things moved on, I started to get bored. I don't really love this movie.

Favorite: I gues maybe Oogie Boogie
Least favorite: Jack.

3. What was your favorite scenes? Your least favorite? Why?: Favorite: This is Halloween song scene. Least favorite: The romance stuff with Sally and Jack.

4. What did you think of the soundtrack and/or score?: The music is the best part of this movie. I like most of the songs.

5. What did you think of the production (cinematography, editing, costuming, etc.)?: It was really pretty and well done animation wise. It looked mostly cool. I just found the plotting kind of dull for the most part.
