printer problem

I don't assume anyone here has a Canon iP2500? I'm trying to help my dad print a photo from his computer, and the damn thing will just not work. It prints text okay, but not pictures! Relevant to this might be the fact that I'm forced to use Paint, since he has no decent programs installed. Should I try to install Photoshop or something, and hope that fixes the problem?

(And yeah, I have checked printer settings and so forth. I can't see any reason why the damn thing isn't able to deal with pics.)

Random Sleep Issue

So I have this thing where I go to sleep and sometimes I'll jump pretty much right into a dream and usually it's someone yelling at me or some other stressful event and I can't do anything about it or move or even yell back because I am physically unable to move or communicate and vaguely I am aware that I am sleeping and then I wake up terrified and can't get back to sleep for like an hour. Is this sleep paralysis? If so, is there anything I can do to, uh, make it go away?

So... I've been listening to German music lately and I bought a CD by Jennifer Rostock (Mit Haut und Haar) and it's very good. I don't speak German but I found the whole thing translated on a lyrics translation site and I like the lyrics. I don't actually know much about them besides their wikipedia article in English, but I like them.

Any other fans? I had a fleeting thought of making this a secret but it seemed kind of silly when I had no reason to keep it a secret...

Heh, I signed up for Kink Bingo, and my card is awesome. A few kinks that aren't my personal preference, but I feel like I can get into the head of a character long enough to write it.

Which of your favorite characters from fandom would you choose to survive it and why? If your least favorite characters were stuck with you too, what would happen?

So, I got to thinking that a lot of times, I'm neutral towards a character until someone says something, or I read something, or I think something, that makes a little lightbulb go off in my brain and makes me suddenly like the character. And sometimes, this lightbulb is a fic. And honestly? I hate disliking or even being neutral towards characters I'm supposed to like, unless I have a good reason for not liking them. I like to love characters. If anyone can convince me to love a character I don't care about, I'm all for it.

So howabout in the interest of spreading the love, lets look through our fic bookmarks, pick out a very short vignette about one of our favorite characters, like a character study or something, that you feel really encapsulates the character's awesomeness and the reasons you love him/her. So if others here are curious about why people love such-and-such a character, they can just read through that short piece in a minute or so, to see if they get any lightbulbs themselves.

Meant to post this yesterday but I'm afraid I accidentally saved over it, so it was kittens and puppies and cute birds instead- which I know is not exactly a bad thing, but still! I'm sorry about that. In any case, here's the post, or as much as I remember of it. Today's feature are quetzals, birds that live in tropical America. Their name basically refers to the long, very impressive tail feathers that the male birds spot, and if it sounds familiar to you, then you're probably thinking of Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent. As odd as it may seem, these birds are actually surprisingly difficult to spot in their normal habitat despite- or perhaps because- of the iridescent green feathers they have. While in any other setting they would stand out, in the jungle, such displays blend in very well.
