i know this is a weird place to ask. but ive been donating money to charities for months only to realize that all my money is not in fact going to help feed the poor or help the needy and part of it is being spent on buying bibles and missionaries which is not what i intended my money to do. idc if other people want to spread their religion, but i don't want a part of it and was horrified when i realised "help the hungry" meant with bibles b/c they don't present themselves as a religious organization at all.

what are some good secular charities i could switch to, fs? help me out

I'm not doing NaNo, but I am writing a novel this month, and for various reasons, my self-imposed deadline is the end of the month.

So my incentive to get it done quickly is that each time I hit a major plot milestone, I get to go see a movie. All the movies I want to see - Wreck It Ralph, Skyfall, that other one that I can never remember the name of - will probably be gone by the end of the month, and the plot points are fairly evenly spaced, so it works. (Plus it's just the first draft, not the finished product.)

Anyone doing anything similar?

Anyone here know of any good general TW fandom tumblrs? It's okay if they include shipping stuff, but I'd rather not have them be focused on any one ship. Or too much on any one character, for that matter.

So there's this plotline going on in this British soap called 'Coronation Street', that's left me kind of conflicted. Recently, an openly gay guy called Marcus has fallen in love with his female best friend Maria, despite him never liking girls before, and in the past having a long term relationship with another guy on the show.
Maria then broke up with her longtime boyfriend for him, their neighbours found out about the scandal and...well, it's a soap, so much drama and homophobia etc is going around the place.

What's making me scratch my head is what this storyline is trying to convey. It could be that he's been bisexual all this time, and is only just realizing this, but reading a little into the backstory, the actor said 'this isn't about Marcus turning bi, but just falling in love with his best friend, who happens to be a girl, which leaves him confused.'

Sexuality is always such a difficult thing to discuss, and the way they're treating it in the programme is getting me all kinds of skittish. Is this a genuine study into sexual orientation, and how labels are essentially reduntant when it comes to love? Or is this a step backwards into gay representation in television, (which admittedly, is VERY underepresented as it is.)It bothers me because a. they might just drop this like a hotcake at the end and revert Marcus's sexuality back to gay status without a second thought just because of ratings. Not to mention this is being represented to a much older target generation, who may think that Marcus is getting 'cured'?

I'd like to hear opinions on other people who may have been following the storyline. Or who may have opinions of their own on the subject. It's been on my mind for a while, so a discussion would be cool. ^^

I'm sorry. I just.. don't have anyone to talk about this with.

I came to the conclusion today, after piecing together some old family drama with newer comments on the elections (specifically the rape/abortion issues)... that it's probable my older sibling was the result of incestuous rape.

I don't know what to do with this knowledge. I mean, I'm not going to bring it up during Thanksgiving dinner, but I can't not think about it now.

I've been reading through the comments and just wow. So many male con-goes attacking female cosplayers because they won't sleep with them. They really don't get that women are not dressing up as characters for -their- pleasure. I especially love how he acts as if most women/cosplaying women don't know anything about comics. Delusion is a hell of a drug.

Thanksgiving conversations

Hi F!S,

So every year my whole family gets together for Thanksgiving, and at any big family gathering my aunts and uncles usually ask me if I'm seeing anyone. The thing is, I'm not dating anyone right now, which is really bumming me out--I'm actually starting therapy soon to help lift me out of this depressive funk. Anyway, I'm afraid that as soon as someone asks me if I'm dating anyone, I'm going to start to cry, and I *really* don't enjoy crying in front of family. I'm sure that when I answer "no" they're going to say "Well you're better off, boys are too much trouble, etc." And I have no idea how to react when I've been feeling so depressed about being alone.

Any tips on how to cope?

I was watching Doomsday Preppers and one of the kids on that show was convinced economic collapse was in our near future (in the USA). Got me to thinking, I actually would not mind if the country went down into a fucked spiral of economic collapse and crazytown. Mostly because lately I've been contemplating killing myself to get out from the mountain of debt I will have sitting on me for the rest of my life, and collapse would be like a fresh exciting start for me!

What about you? Do you think something like a total economic collapse is a real possibility where you live?
