I'm the last person on earth to really comment on this kind of thing, but... I can't be the only one who's feeling really out of place when I see Johnny Depp as Tonto? And the way he's speaking in slightly broken English?

He doesn't really fit into the role and it looks awkward as hell. But of course, no one is going to complain because he's Johnny Depp.

After having a sucky evening last night, I woke up to find out that three of my favorite fanfics had been updated. Two of them only update every few months, and I had thought the third one was dead. Of course, I promptly finished the new chapters and went back to wanting more...until the third fic updated again just now! Squee!! *wiggles around in excitement*

Nightmares

Does anyone on here have nightmares every night? Because I do and have had them for as long as I can remember. I also don't have good dreams. There are sometimes good moments in a nightmare (I had a dream once where I was being chased but saw some cool looking horses), but never a dream that is good unto itself. And my nightmares usually involved being chased or murdered or finding gruesome scenes.

So, um, I just accepted that Star Trek: TOS isn't the pile of junk I'd believed it to be for decades.

Actually it's pretty good in parts, if teeth-grindingly sexist and racist in others*.

On the whole though, I'd say 'good' is growing more likely with every episode I watch. So, time to swallow my pride.

What did you need to re-evaluate F!S?


*I haven't watched much yet, I may be wrong or lacking.

oh my god what in the actual.... you guys. This is completely ridiculous. I feel like I should do something, because this is so intensely outrageously stupid.

[for those unfamiliar: The hashtag #cut4bieber has become the top U.S. trend on Twitter ... after people began posting photos featuring bleeding arms, allegedly the result of "cutting" by disappointed fans looking to pressure the singer into giving up his pot habit.

In fact, someone even started a website encouraging Bieber fans to cut themselves and post photos of the carnage .... until Bieber gives up marijuana for good.

AAAAAH I hate Cicero

He's frickin' creepy. Part of it is the dissonance between his animated voice and the fact that he just stands there calmly, but also that VOICE. It's just - ugh! I can't stand him!

At the same time, though, I feel like I'm underestimating him for some reason. No evidence, just a nagging feeling.

So I'm running the final dungeon in story mode, right, and all the NPCs are tagging along being mostly useless. One of our party members meets the rest of us back at the waypoint and this exchange happens:

Him: i led destiny's edge into a fight and then bailed
Me: Don't worry, they're familiar with that scenario

...I think I need a hobby. (One that doesn't involve taking cheap shots at fictional characters.)

So I've been watching Doctor Who and I just got to the fifth season. My sister, who is pretty into DW and adores the eleventh doctor, has been really happy about my liking the show so far and is eagerly awaiting my seal of approval on him in particular.

There is a problem, though. Mostly Eleven is fine. He's bubbly and runs around saving the world and being charmingly bonkers and everything, but occasionally, he gets really mad and snaps at Amy, yelling at her to just shut up and do as he says. And I just... I've never wanted to smack someone before, but when he does that I want to haul off and hit him so hard that he, like, spins around in a little circle and falls over. It pisses me off so bad.

He's done it twice in six episodes, which isn't very often really. And the rest of it is great imo. But I'm sensing a pattern, and it's really troubling me. My sister is going to be sad. I can't exactly tell her I'm doing extra on my weightlifting routine because Eleven made me want to be strong enough to be able to smack someone hard enough to knock them over if they did that to me. (It's a weirdly specific fantasy, I know.) So uh... what do I do? Does Eleven get better/apologize for the yelling? If he doesn't, is the rest of the season worth watching anyway? I don't want to make my sister sad, but the yelling bit seems to be a deal-breaker for me.

I just watched The Hobbit for the first time. I'd heard a lot about it but I wasn't expecting Figwit/Lindir! I'm just weirdly pleased about his continued involvement now and I don't know why. I certainly didn't care in any way when the LotR films came out.

I wrote my entire honours thesis to one of the Doctor Who soundtracks, because it was epic enough to keep me motivated. Feeling like you're saving the universe > writing my thesis.

I got Chaotic Evil, I'm only a little surprised (I felt I was more of a Chaotic Neutral with Evil tendencies). I didn't think most of my choices were all that evil, stuff like "I would avoid sick people if there was a plague" as opposed to "helping the sick" -- I think most people would react that way

Well, it kind of suffers from the general problem of the alignment system of D&D being... open to a variety of interpretations, let's say. And also problems with certain assumptions.

But I got Lawful Good, because I'm a goodie-two-shoes.

Cosplaying characters of different races

Is it viewed as offensive to cosplay a character of a different race as long as you don't use makeup or anything else to change your skin tone?

I wouldn't think so? I mean, since the biggest objection to it has to do with historical connotations to using things to change your skin tone, I don't think *not* changing it would upset people - unless they just think that cosplayers should 'stick to their own race' when cosplaying.
