Character flaws in fiction vs reality

Everyone has flaws, but how these get treated in fiction sometimes differs greatly from how we treat the same flaws in reality. Sometimes a minor annoyance gets treated like the worst thing ever for comedic/dramatic effect and sometimes what would be a deal breaker in RL is just a lovable quirk in fiction. Let's talk about some of that. What flaws get treated differently in fiction and why?
Example: If you knew someone in RL who was known to get provoked easily and sometimes talk with their fists, you'd probably try to avoid this person. In fiction hotheadedness is a flaw but that character can still be the beloved hero. After all their outburst are always directed at acceptable targets, used as a means to prevent harm to innocents and just a result of the stress of being the hero.

And now it's just people blathering about the same shit I'm trying not to think about. Fandom used to be an escape. Even the drama really, because for the most part you could laugh at it. It's not anymore. Anyone else feel this way?

Social Justice for fictional issues

Bit of a rant, and going off the X-Men secret from yesterday, but I'm really tired of this issue.

Not that people try to make metaphors, intentional or not, into fictional issues in the first place, but that people DEFEND them with all the might of those actual issues, and act as offended if you don't agree as if you're really arguing against their real life applied minorities.

The example that springs to mind is, in Dragon Age fandom, elves and the mage/templar conflict. I have seen some serious nutjobs act like elves are like actual, real minorities and if you don't play as an elf (or dwarf!) you are a racist shitbag, or if you agree with the Circle you are literally agreeing with enslaving Africans again.

Anything like this in your fandom?

This makes me super happy because I've never had a chance to play the Sims before? And now I have a house. :D Plus I was able to add my cat to the game!

The only downside is, with Windows 8, (at least for me), it's not immediately compatible, so you have to do a work around, but eh, it's still worth it for me honestly. I'm just happy that I can finally play the Sims! :D

I've found that now that I'm older, I have stronger, um... personal smells in my lady-garden. Not unpleasant ones, and I'm pretty sure I don't have yeast infection or vaginosis. But the smell is more noticeable, depending on where I am in my cycle. It's as if my vagina wants to advertise when it's ovulation time, and I wish it wouldn't because I'm not having kids, ever. Usually I'll wear the same pants/shorts at least a few days before washing, but in summer that's nearly impossible.

I don't douche, wax or do anything unusual. Is it just me?

Attempting a no-shampoo run on my hair

PLEASE IGNORE THE MISFIRED THREAD BELOW. :(

So apparently if you have thick, wavy, dry-ass hair like I do, one thing you can do is wash with only a silicone-free conditioner every other day, and your hair will start being more healthy/manageable/less of a goddamn disaster after about two weeks and your sebum production finally chills out (since shampoo strips your hair and basically makes it run in panic mode).

I'm four days in and I'm struggling; I really want to wait this out and see if I get results, but it's so greasy-looking and heavy right now that I just want to say fuck it and go scrub with as much shampoo as I can dump on my head.

Has anyone else ever tried anything like this? Any words of encouragement?

Since some people here like video games and the Sims, I thought I'd let you all know that Origin is giving out The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection (it's all the expansions and stuff packs) away for free. The download is just under 13 GB for anyone that's wondering.

The owner (main manager? not sure how that works) of the restaurant I went to called me. She apologized and all that. She said that getting burnt from the Hell Burger isn't something that "happens all the time" but has happened before. I guess servers are supposed to warn you about that.

She then said next time I come in, lunch is free for me and a guest. She didn't say there was any limit on how much I could order though. So...how terrible would it be to order all the expensive stuff I can't usually get? Like the sirloin and chicken combo with EXTRA sides. D: And desserts!

1. Should books that aren't chosen for a given month have a "cooldown" period before they are allowed to be recced again?
2. If so, should books that lose a tiebreaker be exempt from this, or not?
3. How long of a cooldown do you think should be used? Just one month, or longer?

1. Yes.
2. Tie-breakers should get an exemption, special circumstances. But only once. If they end up in the tie again the following month then they go into the regular recs.
3. 2-3 months before re-reccing. If for no other reason than the original reccer might have moved onto other books themselves. No sense allowing any power-fans reccing and reccing and reccing until they get their way. That wrecks it for everyone.
