Shipping, especially for fandoms where the ships shouldn't be the point at all. It used to drive me crazy in the Harry Potter fandom, to the point where I wrote a parody shipwank poem, and ended it with:

This can be true, but come on guys, give them a break. They're teenagers. I've lost patience with teenage fans too, but I feel bad for it now.

(Although I will say sometimes they don't help themselves. I'd tell them they broke a forum rule and they'd start yelling at me for being so mean. But sometimes things could've been worded better on my end, too.)

When obvious teenagers and preteens paint every adult in fandom negatively because they don't treat teen characters as badasses or are mildly punitive towards them.

The most hilarious one that sticks out in my mind was a Listerine-Man costume. Right out of the commercial, but I'm still not sure where the "SFF" aspect of it was....

Teacher/Student Relationships (In Fiction)

Kind of inspired by the age gap thread yesterday.

I think (hope) most of us will agree that these kind of relationships are creepy and unethical in RL (especially if they involve a minor), but how do you feel about them in fiction? Do they always squick you out or do you have exceptions? Why?
Would it ALWAYS be skeevy or would you be okay with it when the younger one's older and on a more equal level with their ex-teacher? Does it matter how long the teacher taught the student?

I ask because there does seem to be differing opinions on this; a couple like Ezra and Aria from Pretty Little Liars is (understandably) regarded as creepy, while a couple like Rose and Dimitri from the Vampire Academy series is widely accepted and shipped. Why? (Also, most fans of the Immortals quartet by Tamora Pierce seem to be okay with Daine/Numair, but I'm not expecting many people to be familiar with that one.)

What is something that you've seen in movies and/or television that makes you go, "Yeah, that doesn't happen in real life."

For me, it's how every American college or high school party is this huge bacchanal with tons and tons of liquor, naked or half naked drunk girls dancing or making out with each other on tables as all the guys watch on, everyone doing drugs of every sort, music is loud and thumping to the point the walls shake and everyone is hooting and cheering.

Honestly, I say maybe one out of ten parties are actually like this. The rest are just us hanging out. Maybe someone is doing weed in another room. There could be some liquor for everyone. But more likely, someone just bought their own flask. The music is at a reasonable level. And everyone is just leaning on things and talking about anything and everything. (Most likely school and work.) No one is yelling. No one is on the furniture dancing. It's actually pretty subdued.

So, how about you? What are something in the media that make you, "Yeah, that doesn't happen...not really."

I've been watching Voyager episodes which I taped off of Fox in the early 2000s (the local channel ran it after their primetime block for a while)and older commercials are much less annoying to me, but now I've got the Honey Nut Cheerios jingle stuck in my head (We're gonna tempt your tummy with the taste of nuts and honey. It's a honey of an O, it's Honey Nut Cheerios.). So much so, I've been randomly singing it of and on all day.

How to get taxi drivers to stop talking to you

I get that some really just want a conversation because of the nature of their job, and I'm ok with that, but I've had some who ask personal questions that aren't outright invasive, but still uncomfortable. I don't ride a lot of taxis, but when I do take taxis alone I worry about this somewhat.

A friend told me to avoid this she likes to glue herself to her phone, put in earphones, or (pretend to) sleep. I don't think the first 2 are effective enough, and I'd never do the 3rd if I'm alone.

Those of you who are on meds, what happens to you when you go off them?

Just out of curiosity. I get any number of effects, sometimes just full blasts of the things I'm on meds to get rid of (anxiety, depression, and rage), sometimes phases resembling what I imagine hypomanic episodes feel like, and sometimes I just become really mean, because apparently my meds also make me think nicer, more compassionate thoughts?

It's weird...I'm not anti-med (obviously), but a part of me feels like, isn't this who I truly am? Am I still "me" on meds? It's an interesting question to ponder, anyway.
