I went hunting for Hurin fics today only to discover there were none. There is so much angsty potential there. I'm really surprised that there isn't even one.

What are your favorite studio audience reactions?

For me I don't think anything will top Monica popping her head out of Chandler's bed, although the moment everyone realizes who got Rachel pregnant ("Hey my sweater! I've been looking for this for like, a month!") is a close second. I kind of love audiences going ballistic.

Another one for me was the audience from Roseanne on the episode "One for the Road" when Becky and her friend get drunk -- there are two moments, both Darlene's: the spit-take (audiences always seem to love spit-takes) and then later on where she baldly lies that Becky's friend had the idea to get drunk in the front of the friend's mother.

OH AND I JUST REMEMBERED the episode where Dan is arrested and Darlene comes to bail him out. Loved how much the audience enjoyed their conversation, I did too.

WWII in the Pacific Recs

Looking for any recs for movies (documentary and otherwise), books, TV shows/episodes, etc. set in World War II from the American or Japanese perspective. Media I've recently consumed includes: The Pacific, Tora Tora Tora, Pearl Harbor: A Novel of December 8th (and the sequel), Hell in the Pacific, Zipang (anime), Letters from Iwo Jima, and The Final Countdown. (And probably something else I'm forgetting...)

Alternate history is awesome, straight-up history is awesome, time travel is awesome, or whatever else you wanna rec.

Very long question

I've mentioned on here that my sister and I plan on going on a vacation next year (our first legit one ever). And we have hit a problem and need advice. We've decided that since the ONLY thing we want to do in NYC is see Lion King, we are going to spend the entire trip in DC and just take a train to spend a day in NYC.

So, now we need to decide when to go. We have two choices. Both nine nights.
February 27-March 7. Hotel will be about $15 more expensive but plane tickets $40 cheaper.
March 3-March 12. Hotel less expensive but more expensive plane tickets.

So, staying Feb. 27 to Mar. 7 seems to save us the most money. But, we are worried about the weather. Does anyone know what weather we can expect? I know that is only a one week different but what I can find online seems to show a difference of like 20-20 degrees.

Or, any advice on what would be the best choice?

Trivial worries: college edition

I'm going to start full-time undergrad studies for the first time next year, but it looks like I'll be 3 years older than people in my batch who started at the 'right' time.

No big deal, right? I've had classmates a couple years older than the norm before, and nobody really cared. But they seemed more well-adjusted than me, and there are other reasons I could have an awkward time. The age thing just makes those a bit more awkward.

Plus, I remember myself and my peers three years ago and...even I matured.

So I'm just throwing this out here in case anyone has something to say from experience. If not, it's fine.
