So, I rewatched Ravenous the other night, and I have to say it's a mixed bag.

On the one hand, it was exactly like I remembered: the acting from the villain was a show-stealer, the musical choices in some of the chase scenes made serious moments morph into comedic interludes, and it was pretty thoroughly charming for a late 90's film.

On the other hand: I remembered it as being fairly creepy with a lot higher stakes, and the protagonist as having more of a personality. Unfortunately I've evolved to the point where I didn't find it even remotely disturbing and the protagonist came off as mildly pretty with the screen presence of a pile of wet cardboard.

Still overall I'd give it 7.8/10, considering it holds up well after 15+ years, was still entertaining, and I definitely found the whole thing to be original and creative. In fact, I'd absolutely put money on the fact that DiCaprio's performance in The Revenant was inspired by a few of the scenes in that movie. Aside from the whole supernatural plot point, it honestly came off as a proto-Revenant in more ways than one.

We just found two abandoned baby kittens in our garden, left in the rain during a thunderstorm, so we took them in. After weighing them we assume they are about 4 weeks old (272g and 284g). Does anyone have any experience or tips how to care for them? (Especially since all major stores/vets/animal shelters will probably be closed tomorrow bc Sunday)

I am a bit lost and really any tips or even links would be super helpful.

Because I'm pretty annoyed right now. I made a thread yesterday about an awkward situation. Basically, a casual friend wants me to be her bridesmaid. I won't do it because it makes me uncomfortable since our friendship amounts to maybe 5 texts a year.

We met to talk about it today. I declined as politely as I could. She refuses to take my answer. She said she doesn't like the answer and will call later in hopes that I change my mind. I've made it clear that I'm set in my decision but she just won't listen.

To top it off, she keeps calling me by my old name. I changed my name some years ago for personal reasons. Even today, I asked her not to use that name. Yet, she keeps using it.

Three quick things!

1. Reminder that we are discussing the May book, Maurice by E. M. Forster, on Tuesday, May 31 when secrets are posted!

2. Reminder that we are reading Dragon Thief by S. Andrew Swann for June! A few notes about this: it's a sequel to a book previously read by book club called Dragon Princess. The discussion thread for Dragon Princess is here if anyone is interested in looking at it. (Thanks again, nonny who found this for me!) We will discuss it on a Sunday - we're going to try that out next month and see how it goes. Specific date TBD.

3. I'm going to go ahead and start taking recs now for July! I will have them open for almost a week - now through Friday, June 3, at which point I will put up the poll. Please post the title AND author or your rec will not be accepted. Please no short stories; full-length books are preferred (collections of short stories are fine as long as it's a reasonable length).

On a note about Maurice, I'm enjoying it despite it not being the kind of book I usually go for and there's a lot of interesting social commentary, colloquialisms and other cool stuff to discuss so I'm definitely looking forward to it! If you're reading it or have finished it already (I think I'm about 80% done), think about what about it stood out to you and what you'd like to discuss. Hopefully we can have a lot of input on Tuesday!

I read the description for it and it sounds interesting, but can the sequel be enjoyed without reading the first one? Just wondering if I need to read it first or can skip it.
