Is it worth it? I did the lesson 1 trial and loved it - the structure and tone of the lessons really worked for me and kept me motivated and regularly practicing my Japanese daily. I'd tried learning hiragana before, but only got marginally good at it with the stop and start learning with books, and I've done 1000x better learning it in Textfugu.

I'm also kinda slow going through them - I like to really absorb each step before moving to the next - so I think it'd be cheaper to go with the one-time $120 than the $20 a month. But, that's still a lot of money for me to spend right now; and I think it was just learning about realkana and drag n' drop that really made the difference.

So, is there anyone here who's bought it that can say if you learn enough in the 8 lessons they have available to be worth it?

I'm not sure if any of you still remember me, but I was the anon from last night who was in need of advice. Yes, the one that had lied about some personal details and wanted to rekindle their friendship with some fandom friends. Consider this little post a sort of update on my situation. I came out and confessed to two of my friends (who are probably my closest, and seemed to be some of the only few that noticed I went missing), and they actually forgave me and said that everyone makes mistakes, but that it's OK as long as we move on from them and become better from them. I've also make a new account, so I am associating myself with some of the embarrassing stuff much less. I just wanted to extend some thank yous to all of you who replied to my thread last night with advice, because I think that's what ultimately gave me the push to confess.

It's been a topic that's come up a couple times of late and it seems like everyone had one fantasy creature they were convinced were real or spent all their time daydreaming about shape-shifting into a particular animal.

Mine was mermaids. I went through a phase where I would read books about biology, genetic engineering, and evolution and obsessively engage in pseudoscience in a vain attempt to prove they could be real.

Ugh, I've been uploading a backlog of stuff to AO3, and I try to NOT fill up the front page of a fandom with all my stuff. I spread it out a bit, and that's part of the reason it's taken me so long to do it.

But I swear, for one of my fandoms literally HALF of the fics on the front page are by the same two people. I want to get a few more titles between my last fic and my next one, but I think if one of them is ever about to be pushed off the front page, I won't hesitate to be the one who does it. But I still don't plan on having more than two fics of mine on page one at a time.

Is there an etiquette for this sort of thing that I'm just woefully ignorant to?

A group I enjoy was posting art for a Halloween event, and I figured that I'd give it a shot, my art's not that great, but I'd try, you know? Besides, from the way it sounded, I thought that all the art for this art prompt would be shown, and thus mine would just be one of many.

Well, mine was one of many, but then I found out that other people's are wasn't shown, and mine was, and I just feel like their art is so much better than mine and should have been showcased

Is there a way to make that feeling go away?

I think I know what OP means? Fandom makes me more invested in things than I would be normally, and then the shittiness of the canon is harder to deal with. Fandom also makes me invested in media that I would normally avoid.

Contrary to popular belief, this has nothing to do with tumblr? Big fandoms often grow around shows with large holes and flaws. Some people have the creative urge to fill in and fix those flaws. I don't, but still fall in love with the fandom. I hope this makes sense to people...? I'm working on this same thing and I still enjoy and love lots of things.

At least in the case of Supernatural, people leave that fandom all the fucking time because they're tired of making excuses for canon. It's not rare.
