Crossing my fingers for Megumi Ogata to return as Haruka Ten'ou/Sailor Uranus. While, it would be great to see most of the old cast return, I wouldn't be too disappointed if they didn't. I would be quite disappointed if Megumi Ogata didn't. She's the only one I can see voicing Haruka.

I know I'm dredging this up a couple of days after this conversation started, but I was awaiting for a credible source to bring up this rumor.

Donetsk is supposed to be part of modern-world Europe, even if it is trying to secede from Ukraine to go to Russia. They remember the war there. And yet they try and do something like this:

Dreamworks is currently working on Home, an animated adaptation of Adam Rex's The True Meaning of Smekday. I'm holding out almost no hope for it (although more hope than I probably would if it was another studio), but at least they got the character designs right. Before I knew anything else about it, I looked at the promo image and went, "Oh my God, that's J.Lo and Tip!"

A while back I asked everyone what they had been putting off doing and/or really needed to do. Let's celebrate some achievements!

I finally watched Snowpiercer and it only took like 3 weeks! Chris Evans is wonderful in it. I have also lost a bunch of weight (working out/portion control) and bought some new pants (I am 6 sizes smaller)!

What are some things you have accomplished recently? Big or small it doesn't matter. Finishing a thesis, watching a movie, finally doing your laundry, give me some accomplishments!

Political incorrectness gone mad?

So I know a lot of people who seem to like the idea of "political correctness gone mad" or maybe now it's SJWs instead of political correctness (at least on the internet/among younger people).

But has anyone noticed the people who are against political correctness/SJWs behaving in the exact same way? As in, getting mad/offended about unimportant things (including in cases where they misunderstood something), looking for things to get offended about, and refusing to tolerate disagreement?

For example, someone recently posted a thing on facebook... it was just someone's rule 63 (aka genderbent) version of the Hobbit, and this guy was all "my childhood was raped" and had some quote about how "fragile" and easy to destroy are, basically implying that whoever had written the Rule 63 thing had totally ruined The Hobbit for him, like he can't enjoy the original now.

This is the same guy who constantly posts things like "if something offends you, YOU are the problem, not the thing" or "when someone says they are offended by something, they are telling you to censor yourself because they can't handle opposing opinions" (these aren't actual quotes, more like paraphrases, but they had the same idea).

I was really tempted to post on the Hobbit link telling him that if a simple genderbend thing offends him, be careful what you Google so you don't run into worse stuff (porn, gore, whatever). Or tell him that if he can't enjoy the original book just because someone made a genderbent version, then the "fragile" thing is his mind, not the book. But that probably wouldn't have ended well, and who knows how many people would have been mad at me.

I've also had problems with my dad, especially when I was a kid. I'd do something like ask a simple question, and would get my head verbally bitten off because he somehow misinterpreted my innocent question as an attempt to censor him or tell him something he had said was bad. Like I'd ask "what does that word mean" and he'd snarl at me to "go change the world on my own time" or insist that I was telling him what to say when I was really just asking what a word meant. So I basically ended up having to walk on eggshells to avoid making him mad, and all because he was so obsessed with the idea that everyone was trying to tell him he couldn't say certain things.

There are also a large contingent of people who seem to think freedom of speech includes freedom from being disagreed with or questioned about your opinions. We have free speech... so shut up, don't disagree, and don't ask questions!!! Annoys the hell out of me.

Romantic Subplots

So I was having an interesting conversation with some friends about romance and romantic subplots. I was a bit concerned about the fact that I had two characters I wanted to end up together but I didn't want to annoy everyone with a romantic subplot. My friend mentioned the reasons they disliked romantic subplots as "more about how they're done" and explained that they found them annoying because the characters seemed wrapped around each other to the point where it became a plot tumor, and they tended to describe each other in shallow conventionally attractive ways.

So from what I see, it's better to focus on who both characters were and on them as characters, to have them like each other for their whole character (what makes them...well THEM), as well as keeping the romantic subplot from taking over.

It made me a bit curious to ask and so I decided to ask some other people. What makes romantic subplots annoying to you? What would make you able to forgive or look past a romantic subplot? What do you all think?

MLP introduction to fandom

So I've started watching mlp: fim and would like to dip my toes into the fandom. But I really want to avoid the crazy parts that people always talk about. Can anybody point me too any good fics/art/whatever? I'm prefer gen, am okay with shippy but definitely not porny. Or grimdark or creepy, but nothing so horrible it will ruin the show. Can anyone suggest anything for me?

Fingersmith By Sarah Waters takes the win.

The plan is as follows:
Anyone who want's to take part should try and get the book asap but the end date is Saturday 31st May, There'll be an official type discussion then, and we'll also start picking another book.

but feel free to throw up any discussions you fancy between now and then (I know I will be - I like talking about stuff as I'm reading / watching, instead of saving my thoughts up and letting them all out at the end, especially when the end is a full month away). Just keep you're progress labelled so you don't spoil people until the end date.

EG, if you're up to the second chapter and you want to talk about it at some point before Saturday the 31st, just put up a post called something like "Book club, Fingersmith, chapter two" common sense and courtesy, really.

God's willing this will all start running smooth and be as fun as I'm hoping for.
