Writing thread

Do you read your stories (esp. fanfic)"in chronological order", as the story unfolds? I envision my stories as a series of scenes and I have most of them on my mind before I get to writing. Today though, I wanted to write the last part (aka the smutty part) before writing the middle of the story. I just couldn't do it. For me, if I hadn't written down what happened just before, it was as if it didn't happen, and it made no sense for my characters to get it on before I had written the emotional climax.

So how do you do it F!S? Do you begin with the juicy stuff? Can you write the different scenes individually before weaving them together in your story canvas?

How do you cope with...

... The crushing depression that comes when you realise how utterly nothing and mundane your life is? And thats at best. It's a miserable failure the rest of the time?

How do you look in the mirror, see that you're thirty and nothing special or life changing will ever happen to you, and not take whatever steps necessary to end it?

I mean, before, through my twenties I would escape into media, and dream about better things. Now all I get from media is reminders of what I'm not and never will be, and some days, like today, I just can't take it. It's like I'm losing the ability to experience joy vicariously and there's nothing to around fill the gap.

How do you live as a real world adult? How do I find a way to put up with this?

What's your favorite creature in film and/or TV?

Personally, I loved the dragons in Reign of Fire and the wildlife of Avatar was definitely a treat.

I also love it when horses are properly animated as far as gaits are concerned. The flaming horse in Ghost Rider is a prime example.

It Could Be Worse

I can't express how much I hate this sentiment. It's fine if you're talking about your own situation but when other people say it. Is it meant to be comforting? Yes, things could be worse. Things could always be worse. But, guess what, they could be better as well?

It's so dismissive and unhelpful. Amazingly, thinking about how much worse things could be doesn't make me feel better.

Anyone know how to fix a sagging door?

The door to our bathroom is dragging when it gets about halfway open. I am pretty sure the hinges are loose. My landlord took the door down, sanded some of the bottom off, and put it back up. And it opened completely again. After a month or so, it started dragging when halfway open.

I've told my landlord and he says that the bottom of the door is probably really dirty. I know this can't be the issue because when I LIFT the door, I can see it rise a bit and it will move past the halfway point.

Would replacing the hinges fix this? Is there anyway to stop it from sagging?
