Heroic fantasy recommendations

I've only read a few heroic fantasy books (almost all of Robin Hobb has written and A Song of Ice and Fire) but I really liked them and now I want more. Thing is whenever I step inside the fantasy section of the bookstore I get overwhelmed and nothing really sticks out :/. So what does F!S recommend?

Hey ladies, does anyone else here have to deal with constant pit stains? I use clinical strength deodorant (I've tried Degree and Dove and I think Secret), but I still sweat through my shirts almost daily unless I awkwardly sit with my elbows out. I don't know if every woman secretly deals with this or if it's just me. I'm open to any deodorant suggestions from anyone fighting the same issue.

(Also, I've checked with my doctor, and the problem isn't serious enough to have any procedures done or anything like that.)

Okay, I’m all about the UST, the lead-up, the foreplay of a relationship. I would much rather have the tease than the canon – if they are going to actually get together, I’d like them to wait until the end of the series. Anyone else feel the same?

Wish-fulfillment character flaws?

Does anyone else have specific personality flaws that you know are flaws and are bad things and which you should never want to have, but which kind of hits your wish-fulfillment button when you see those flaws in fictional characters?

Like, I have a HUGE thing for arrogant show-offs. The more conceited and flamboyant and loud, the better, (as long as there's actually some basis for their high opinion of themselves, otherwise they look like dweebs). Doubly so if they're obnoxiously hammy and/or sarcastic. I once wrote out a whole list of examples of this character type in a discussion about "characters I shouldn't want to be like but do anyway" but I can't remember where it is.

Even though it's obviously bad to be like that and the problems and ill effects associated with that kind of behavior far outweigh the benefits, I always wish I had the stones and self-confidence and lack of hang-ups to be that self-aggrandizing and unafraid of people staring at me as they are.

Shooting at University of South Alabama.

Last night at 1:30 AM a student was shot and killed by campus police at my college. The official report is that the student was naked and unarmed when he went to the campus station and began beating at the windows until one of the officers came out. Then he repeated attacked the cop, who fired one shot into his chest. He got up after being shot and attempted to attack the officer again before falling to the ground and "expiring".

To me this sounds like excessive force mixed with drunken/drugged stupidity that ended in a tragedy. One thing that bothers me is that the student was only 18 and 140 lbs, so it really shouldn't have been difficult to physically subdue him if the officer had only called for backup. They were right outside of the station!

Anyway, everyone here is either screaming 'Police Brutality!' or 'PCP psycho!' and it's a huge shitfest. I thought I would ask for some impartial discussion from my fandom friends, even though obviously this is beyond off topic.

How easily are you squicked out by things on the internet? Are there certain things that easily freak out other people that just make you go "meh"? Have you been on the internet for so long that you've become jaded to the point that you can't even remember the last thing to squick you out?

Anytime fandom attempts to bring something from the animal world into romance/sexual situations squicks me - omegafic, knotting, wing!fic. All of it confuses me and makes me hit my back button like whoa.

Things that aren't post-modern, ironic, or self-aware. That don't wink and grin or try to be witty. That don't "play with" or "deconstruct" tropes. That don't rely on cannibalizing the images and the power of other things. That try to work within genre without commenting on it. That tell a story as well and as capably as they can, and just try to make something good.
