I just saw first fanart mashup of the new BBC Atlantis series with SG:A. The Atlantis show hasn't even aired yet, and already people are planning their SG:A crossovers.

Giant faces in the sky

This seems to be a popular idea when it comes to designing book/fanfiction covers, and it absolutely cracks me up. I cannot take a book seriously if its cover features one or more faces hanging against a fucking landscape. Bonus points if the faces in question are transparent and have thoughtful/sad expressions.

Any recs? It seems that all "X and Y are BFFS and X angsts about Y being straight" slash fanfics turn out with Y eventually reciprocating or are little snapshot vignettes that allow for the possibility that Y could reciprocate. But I've noticed there's a general dearth of fics where X realizes Y is totally straight or in love with someone of the opposite gender and will never return their feelings, or where Y has to reject X. Recs?

Bonus if Y's platonic love for X is still really strong.

I've come to the realization recently that it really gets on my nerves when people have a headache, but call it a migraine. If you can function, it's not a migraine. Stop being such a drama queen. I think it bothers me so much because people then use it as an excuse to be rude.

Now that I've gotten that off my chest, what's your pet peeve(s)?

This isn't an entirely new revelation, but after a super old (incredibly, embarrassingly douchebaggy, 'I really don't agree with this any more why did I even write it whyyy') tumblr post I made was brought back from the depths of my archives this week, I was reminded that the internet is indeed forever. Just gotta sit down with a cup of tea and wait for all this to just blow over but eh, it's anxiety I could have done without.

In the meantime, what did you learn/re-learn this week, F!S?

Your expectations, f!s? Is anyone looking forward to seeing it?

I'm Russian, and, tbh, I'm both touched and amused when I encounter fans from other countries who say that they're happy to have another adaptation and that they think it'll turn out to be good.

Because I am 95% sure it will be bloody awful.

For one thing, it has Boyarsky playing Lestrade, and that's... not a good choice at all. Boyarsky is absolutely OTT and pretty much plays only the comic relief role nowadays. He used to be able to act - sort of - but now ridiculous is the only epithet he deserves.

And then, well, it's a modern Russian film. The mainstream Russian cinematograph is ruined (individual art house producers are another matter, but there aren't many of these). The acting will be cringeworthy, and the plots will probably drive me insane once I try to watch it.

Okay let's go!

One person thinks of a character and reveals the first letter of that character's name.
The others then try to guess that character using leading questions that point toward characters whose names start with that letter.
For example, if the letter was A, someone could think of Ash Ketchum and ask, "Do you want to be the very best like no one ever was?"
If the person knows the character the guesser is thinking of and it's the wrong answer, they respond using the character's name: "No, I am not Ash Ketchum."
If they don't know the character the guesser is thinking of, they say so. The guesser then explains who it was and gets to ask one yes-or-no question, to which they must respond honestly. "Are you male?" "Are you from a book?" and "Do you wear pants?" are all examples of good questions.
Guessers can use the answers to these questions to narrow down their guesses, but note: guessed characters do not have to fit the answers that have been given.

If you guess the character the original person was thinking of, you win!
