I have no idea, but I'd imagine it's less love and more about people with rape fantasies. Or Stockholm Syndrome.

Either way, definitely does not appeal to me.

Yeah, kinda. The point is that person A loves person B so much that they rape person B, after which person B (through the magical power of rape) realizes that they, too, love person A. Happy end.

Rape is love isn't about real rape. It's a romanticized idea that the rapist loves the victim so much that he/she can't "love"/sex any other person, so they give into temptation. Or something stupid like that. In reality, if someone loved you, they wouldn't be raping you. It's fine in fantasy, but horrifying if people believe it's something that could happen in reality.

I'm mostly unsure whether something in one of my favorite fics IS this trope - it definitely involves rape and it definitely involves love, but I'm not sure if it fits into the description.

Character A and character B have been obsessed with each other for a couple of years, this is NOT presented as a good and healthy thing and the fic does portray them as both broken and fucked-up people. Character A is a masochist who has been fantasizing about character B hurting him and considers character B to pretty much own him, character B is a sadist who has been fantasizing about hurting character A, and has a ton of control issues and needs things to be Just So. (Canonically, character B IS extremely fucked up, mentally.)

Neither character knows this about the other - character B tends to keep pushing character A away, which is because a part of him is horrified by his own thoughts and he doesn't actually want to hurt character A, and which character A interprets as being because character B knows about character A's feelings and is disgusted by them. Both are essentially head over heels in love with each other.

Eventually, after character A kisses character B on impulse and because he thinks it's the last time he'll ever see him, they do realize, oh shit, we've been lusting over each other for years, let's do something about this. Cue sweet, consensual, and hot sexual activity, mostly oral sex, before falling asleep together.

Until character B wakes up after horrific nightmares, realizes that if he doesn't do something, he could lose character A, so he ties character A to the bed and rapes him (and it is rape, complete with character A begging him to stop at first). About halfway through, the tone changes and character A's begging for character B to stop starts turning into character A begging character B to keep going. The aftermath is... almost sweet, but neither really acknowledge that it was rape. This entire scene is from character B's perspective.

Next chapter is from character A's perspective, where he thinks back to the night before and is sort of... both horrified and not-horrified over what happens. He acknowledges that it was terrifying to begin with but also felt good in a masochistic kind of way, and still feels incredibly tender towards character B, both despite and because of what he did, character B is ashamed of his actions and keeps trying to force character A to leave so he won't hurt him, character A just wants to help character B and still wants to be with him, including wanting to be fucked (and hurt) by character B.

That story technically isn't finished, but there are side stories set afterwards where they are in a fairly happy (and kinky) relationship, they do genuinely love each other, and character B is STILL fucked up and has massive control issues and character A basically martyrs himself for it and is still trying to save character B (although he does make a point of telling character B that if he ever hits him in anger outside of the bedroom, he WILL leave).

Basically, tl;dr, character B rapes character A but character A ends up enjoying it and, later, acknowledges that it was terrifying and wrong of character B to do it but is okay with it (and more okay with it than character B) and still wants to pursue a sexual and romantic relationship with him. Story portrays both of them as being really fucked up, obsessive, and broken, and does NOT at all say that it's a healthy relationship, even if it does end up as a loving one.

Would you say this fits the category of 'rape is love'?

It annoys me tremendously when people say they're Narnia fans and then go "but it's too Christian" or "it would be so much better without the religious stuff" or "I don't see why the animals needed human rulers, they should have overthrown them and started a republic." If you're offended or annoyed by overt Christian themes in a story, it might not be the best choice to read the works of a Christian theologian. Acting surprised or upset or miffed that a man who explicitly went on record as saying that the Narnia books were meant as an AU of Christianity, elected to actually write them as an AU of Christianity, is completely absurd - go and read non-religious authors instead, then. But if your understanding of those Christian themes is so nonexistent that you don't get why human kings and queens were put in charge of a land of animals in a Christianity AU, you probably won't see what I'm getting at here anyway.

I really really dislike the Roy/Riza pairing in the Fullmetal Alchemist manga. Not because I ship Roy/Ed or any dumb shit like that, but because;

a) I hate it when a male/female pair MUST be in love in order to protect each other and can't just stay close friends
b) Their relationship is unhealthy on quite a few levels and no one seems to notice
c) Riza's whole backstory and current arc revolves around Roy and I want her to have a life OUTSIDE of him

But the worst part was the fans who squeed at the Roy/Riza in every chapter even back when it was ambiguous and started declaring it canon, and laughed at anyone who thought it wasn't an obvious done deal since chapter 5. Especially when they took Riza's threat of murder/suicide as a romantic moment that 'confirmed' the pairing.

Myself, I keep having ideas of writing what Jason Todd's tenure as Robin would have been like during the timeskip in Young Justice. I feel like I could do his character some justice but also see how he'd interact with other characters like Artemis and M'gann and such. And also how I'd write his death - in a way that could actually be shown in a cartoon - and his resurrection.

I like Jason a lot, okay?

I'm 100% it won't look like that and I'm also sure it would be a bad, bad movie. But I'm still hoping it won't.

I came to tumblr for the fandoms but the SJ side sucked me in. It's fascinating but also incredibly depressive. Some of the logical fallacies and lies there are just so… I can't believe there are people who think stuff like that is okay.

Tiger & Bunny manga after volume 5?

I just started reading these books, and bought them all because they're great.

Only I came to the last one, and it's not the last one? I was wondering how they were going to tie up all the loose ends in just 5 books, and they didn't.

Anyone know how many more Tiger & Bunny manga books there are going to be? I can't find the info anywhere, including Viz (the publisher's) website. When are they out?

I did try to google this but no luck.

My guess is that volume 6 isn't out yet in Japan. It can't be translated until the original volume is released, right? This happens all the time when the translation has caught up with any Japanese back volumes. Enough chapters have to be finished one week/month/season at a time for them to be compiled into a volume, then the volume has to be translated and all the new artwork done, the book printed/compiled into the final GN, and shipped out to publishers.

Check the printing date in vol 5. If it's less than 3 months ago, you have a couple months more to wait, minimum. If it's been 6 months, the new volume should be out soon. If it's been a year or more, then something's going on and you should email the English publisher and ask what's up.

It seems pretty frequent on F_S that posters will say "I wish more people were into my fandom..." which isn't really a secret, but feels like an attempt to stir up conversation and interest in the fandom.

So -- this is the chance to talk about your fandom and why more people should be into it. A canon you wish more people would consume, or talk about, or fandoms where there are one or two people writing good fic but not enough people responding or appreciating it. (This doesn't have to be small fandoms. This is also the place for "I'm in a big fandom but only 1 or 2 writers are interpreting it the way I want.)

I don't actually have an example for myself; rather, I'm looking for cool fandoms to be part of.

I can see that there are problems with his work, but I have to say the most recent 'oh my God he is saying that there cannot be happy lesbians because this particular character enjoys shipping tragic femslash' wank was like a parody of 'this is why we can't have nice things'.

Though I don't think 'getting butthurt because people misunderstand him and posting about how sad it makes him is the answer either. If you can't deal with that kind of criticism (and can't distinguish the silly from the serious stuff that needs addressing) then don't read your feedback.
