Let's talk about words we hate, not because of what they mean but because of what they sound like. Moist, for example, is a word that has been publically complained about on several occasions.

I personally don't like the word quiche. It doesn't sound appetizing so I avoided eating it for a long time before discovering the glory of the actual dish. Damn you, quiche! I could have been eating you if you didn't sound bad.

Let's hear it!

I don't know if this counts as a word, but the cat down the street has a meow that I don't like. It's harsh and grating and not appealing at all, and whenever he comes over to me he does it. It sounds kind of rude and demanding, even though it's just a meow.

Things you wish fanfic authors would/wouldn't do

I wish more authors would take the effort to write a decent summary. It's the first impression people get of your work when they decide whether or not to read it, so it's worth the time and effort to do a good job.

The subject line was said by an anon in FS a couple of nights ago, and there was a bit of back-and-forth, but the thread didn't really take off.

My opinion? I think we are pretty centre-leaning (Er...you know what I mean...) here at FS, and I would say we have a wide mix of people. A lot of users and anons in the thread seemed to disagree, and it was only one anon that said we "skewed extremely liberal."

Your thoughts, FSers?

Random question: for those that eat frozen food meals, the most common way to heat them is in the microwave. But they offer instructions for the oven too. Not a toaster oven, an actual oven. Does anyone actually heat their frozen food meal in the oven instead of the microwave?

When I'm on the computer, I usually have a few forum posts open, a few fanfics from different fandoms, and one (sometimes, but rarely, 2) episode of a TV show. I read a few posts on the forum. Switch between fanfics, reading a couple paragraphs of each. Watch 2-3 minutes of the TV show, and then start the process all over again.

I do this all day. Do people sit down and read a whole fanfic, or sit down and watch a whole episode of a TV show? I can't imagine this.

I just found out a (gay) guy I know considers himself an MRA and I'm just kind of baffled by it.

I'm not trying to start wank or anything but I am confused. Does anyone else know any gay dudes who are MRAs? It always seemed to me that their favorite thing to do was whine about being unable to find a girlfriend, which obviously doesn't apply to gay guys. I don't get it.

I like to go to a Thai restaurant and one of the dishes they cook there is an eggplant stir fry thing. The eggplant is soft and kind of meaty. I've made stir fries before and I love it so much that I bought an eggplant wanting to try to make it. I thought I could look online but there's no specific guide on what to do with it for a stir fry...they just assume you know.

Help me? I'm considering calling the restaurant like an idiot and asking them wtf to do. It's one of the big eggplants that's like 7-8 inches long and it's a little soft.
