No videos in stream this week folks! There will be a stream, but it's of things that never happened, so I imagine well just sit around and stare at my computer's background since none of the things I"m playing existed. At least, that's what the fans of the larger series want to say! And since fans are always right, well, I got nothing to show you!

First in our non-list, the fictitious "beginning" of Star Wars! Annoying sidekicks! Stupid plot progression! The greatest villian of all time is now a little dork who wants to /ss/! NOT THE PHANTOM MENACE!

Then, a fantasy series doesn't become a sci fi series! From magic to not aliens out of nowhere! A movie that if it existed, even Sean Connery couldn't save! WE'VE NEVER HEARD OF HIGHLANDER II! (Just 1 and 3 and that crossover one for that matter. Weird how there's only 3 movies and they are titled so oddly)

I saw Highlander 2 in theaters. I was so excited for it. The first movie was my favorite thing ever for a long time.

Stream Interest Inquiry: Original Star Wars + Holiday Special

Would people be interested in (gradually--not all on the same day, that's too long) a stream of the original Star Wars movies?

That is, A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, plus the Star Wars Holiday Special?

I believe I have a copy of the Holiday Special with the original commercials.

For the record, this wouldn't be an ironic showing just to make fun of them (they're kitchy as hell, but they plus the prequels are also my childhood).

If people are interested, I'll need to figure out a time that doesn't clash with any ongoing streams--when works for you people? I know someone did a Friday night stream once.

There are these two pieces of fanart that are making me want to write fics inspired by them. But I'm not sure how the artists would feel, especially because my writing quality can't come close to matching the quality of the art.

This is the place to ask questions about canon source material to clarify confusion about claims you've seen fans make, or fanon tropes, or characterization, when it comes to fandoms that have large sprawling canons (eg, superhero comics, some mangas, Doctor Who, Star Wars), or canons with multiple versions (eg, books adapted to movies or comics adapted to TV shows), or canons with lots of sequels/spinoffs (eg, Star Trek). You are a fan, but you haven't been able to watch/read every bit of the canon material. Does fandom as a whole actually WANT variety in its fic?

I've seen more than a few people on this comm complain about how all the fic starts to look the same once a shiny new fandom has settled down, as soon as that fandom's particular tropes and conventions have established themselves.

I like to experiment with styles and concepts that I don't see in fanfiction very often, and most of my fics are either written in a style or have content that is unusual or unconventional by the standards of the fandom. These "weird" fics make up the bulk of what I write, and they don't get nearly as much attention as the few generic fluff pieces I've written.

That doesn't bother me very much, but it does make me think that the reason so many fandoms don't have much fic that strays from fandom "norms" is because most readers simply aren't interested. I know that getting feedback is very important for many writers, and perhaps they're hesitant to write things outside the typical mold because they don't think it will be received well.

What do you guys think?

Best Straight To DVD or Bombed movies

What are some of the best (or favorite) movies that were straight to DVD OR bombed at the box office?

I just watched The Mummy with Cushing and Lee for the first time in my life, and it was an entertaining experience, but HOLY MOLY IS IT RACIST. I was laughing by the end of it because I couldn't take the Egyptian guy seriously.

I'm curious if the creators of the film were aware of the fact that he has a point when he says that archaeology is grave desecration. Like, it's not a statement of fact, but it is a genuine concern for archaeologists themselves. Did the producers knowingly give the antagonist a viewpoint that could be considered valid? Or was it just a side effect of his EVIL EGYPTIANNESS?

Also, I kind of want to see a movie where the Christian god haunts and murders someone via his bloodthirsty angels, every single one of which is played by Christopher Lee.

Mods in Dragon Age fandom

Just to clarify: I have never played these games.

So, I just got into one hell of a fight with someone over some controversial mods that they wanna call #modgate2k15. Lost some followers as well who I thought were pretty reasonable tbh.

To me? I don't see a problem with them. My argument is why is it a bad thing to give everyone options? Mods to make straight characters gay or bi, mods to make gay characters straight or bi, mods to make the characters different skin colors and the like.

But their argument is that it erases them.

....how? From what I can tell, the DA series is a console game that individual people play.

Now, I do know some people will download certain mods who DO wanna make that game completely straight friendly or gay friendly or whatever. However, I also know that not everyone who downloads the mods does it for bigoted reasons. Others do it for the variety.

Me? Were I playing those games? I'd download all the bi mods just so I can romance whoever my little heart feels like (yes that even means Dorian with a fem!Inq and Sera with a male!Inq).

But I fail to see how this erases them. These mods don't affect anyone else's game but the person who uses them. So people who like the game as is are fine. And everyone knows the mods don't change canon. So those few people who try and say it does will always be shot down, but the community and the creators alike. Not to mention, people who use mods are probably actually a small portion of the player base, especially since these only affect the PC versions (if there are ones that can affect the console version, well, i honestly have no idea as i thought things like that couldn't happen? Oo??)

I just don't get it. I mean, I was surprised and happy when bioware introduced two gay characters. I was applauding them liek whoa. But, I also don't think it's a bad thing to allow people to mod the game at a later date to fit what they wanna do. Since that only affects them.
