What are some of your favorite female friendships?

Also, why DO you think it's so rare to see non-related female characters who aren't rivals, frenemies, or at least relatively passive/indifferent towards each other?

- Leslie and Ann from Parks and Rec, hands down.

The female friends on FRIENDS were also great about this - the series had plenty of contrived love triangle scenarios, and the friends could be rather horrible, but one of the things I liked about the show was that Monica, Phoebe and Rachel seemed to legitimately love one another. There's even an episode in the first season where Rachel's boyfriend hits on Phoebe, and Rachel gets mad at the boyfriend, not Phoebe. (Nor is Phoebe remotely tempted to reciprocate.)

I always liked Elinor and Marianne from Sense and Sensibility. They're quite unalike in personality and temperament, but they're there for each other, even when they disagree on things.

As for the second, I think a lot of media has a real problem writing decent female characters with depth and a role beyond how they related to the male characters on the cast. So you get a lot of wives and girlfriends or the occasional tomboyish friend, but you women who stand on their own and/or who have meaningful relationships with other women don't get as much screentime.

As others have said, I love the friendships between Monica Geller, Phoebe Buffay, and Rachel Green, and between Daria and Jane.

I also really enjoyed the characterization of female characters on Greek, and the friendship between Casey & Ashleigh (and the friendships between the actresses, listening to an episode commentary.)

The Mindy Project portrayed female friendship in a way I personally found relatable and enjoyable in the first season, but then it kind of became a sausage fest workplace comedy, which while still fun and enjoyable, was missing part of what drew me to the show in the first place.

A lot of the time when feminist issues are debated in mainstream (non-fandom, non-feminist) spaces, there will inevitably be a number of men coming out complaining about how women are their own worst enemies because they're catty, backstabbing, passive-agressive bitches towards each other. I've no idea how widespread is outside of losers who hang around to comment on news articles, though.

To those who spent some time on kink-memes: What were some of the worst fills you've seen (bonus if it was on your own prompts).

I know, I know, you shouldn't act entitled and you have no control over what fills you might get but sometimes, fillers really knock it out of the park with something that, for example, completely goes against the spirit of the prompt, like including major squicks (sometimes even on purpose).

For example, inspired by secret 1, my response is cynicism. I just can't stand it when people are cynical about everything, especially to the poi t where their cynicism becomes a point of precious pride for them.

Doctor anxiety anon from the other day

I took everyone's advice, bit the bullet and made an appointment, which was today. I had three spots on my skin looked at and the doctor said they looked harmless but took samples for the lab just in case. My mind has been eased greatly, FS, and I feel like I owe much of that to you. Thank you so much for helping me.

Depression has snuck up on me again, f!s. I feel no motivation to care for myself (eat healthy, wash my face, be active) and I'm so stressed that I think it's affecting my abdomen (which is in sharp pain, and swollen)

My self love is non existent, and all I want is to self destruct (drink, starve myself, cut my palms), but luckily I have people in my life who are making sure I don't go down that route

It feels... chemical. Like I'm lacking something. Idk :( meds and therapy aren't an option... I can't go through that search again. I need to fix myself, I've fallen so far. I just forgot how to stand

Nostalgia

This is in reaction to a lot of discussion I've seen regarding Disney live action movies and Star Wars. I see people rant about them just trading on nostalgia and that being a criminal indictment against them. I don't see why this is a problem. Why shouldn't Disney trade on nostalgia? It's not like Disney is the only one putting out content so you can't still find original stuff or that Disney is the only thing (most) people consume, so why shouldn't people indulge in some nostalgia? Why shouldn't Disney as a brand be the nostalgia brand? I think the media they produce works just as well if you're not familiar with the nostalgia they're conjuring up. If the argument is that catering to fan nostalgia hurts the final product, I don't agree.

Had an asthma attack and had to go to the ER, then had to go to the dentist to have two teeth drilled down for temporary crowns to be put on. Then got followed by a road ragey guy who was mad I guess that I was going the speed limit and didn't leave enough room for him to pass? Thankfully I lost him, but that was really scary. So today pretty much sucked. Pretty kitties would really help.

Glasses! Specifically - bifocals; a question.
