What do you like even though you know it's inaccurate (historically or otherwise)?

The Pride and Prejudice movie was lost on me because the characters dressed way too modern. But I had also just seen the BBC miniseries; I probably would've cared less if I hadn't.

I enjoyed The Mummy franchise despite inaccuracies, because it was just so much fun. Stuff like The Other Boleyn Girl and Philippa Gregory's books... eh, not so much.

Merlin! Literally everything in that show was ridiculous and anachronistic, but I still have fond affection for it (and all the fic it delivered into the world).

I love the Pride and Prejudice movie with Kiera Knightly. It's my favorite of the adaptations, even with all the flaws. I also liked the Marie Antoinette movie with Kirsten Dunst.

BBC's Robin Hood was kind of a trainwreck but I enjoyed its campy ridiculousness. And Richard Armitage's Guy of Gisborne.

I'm having trouble thinking of anything that I didn't like because of inaccuracies. I generally just laugh it off. My favorite example is Disney's Hercules where Hera is a doting wife and mother to Zeus and Hercules. It's hilarious.

A friend and I were watching a movie where the main guy was walking through the streets of New York, and she says to me, "The streets in New York are WAY more crowded than that!"

And I was like, "Wow, it's almost as if this were a movie and not a documentary!"

I also love Wet Hot American Summer the Netflix series because even though it takes place in the '80s, there are tons of hilarious anachronisms! My favorite was when someone pulled out an iphone, and another character was like, "Wtf is that?"

The movie 'Lady Jane' with Helena Bonham-Carter. Utterly inaccurate and yet.... Still lovely and heartbreaking. Her laugh when she tells her new husband she's sent all the food away (to the beggars at the gate), and her lost, pathetic grope for the chopping block, when she's blindfolded and told to 'lay ye down', and it's too far away for her to find....

Do you find that the people who accuse others of looking for something to be mad about, more often than not do that exact thing themselves? If they dislike something or someone, they latch onto any little thing they can, well, be mad about. Is it projection because they think everyone else does what they do?

I've literally never looked for something to be mad about someone or some fandom, the whole idea simply doesn't occur to me, but every person I've heard make this accusation about other people or groups does it themselves.

How do you read fanfic?

Everything critical I seem to read about it seems to point it being a pseudoscience and most pro-detoxing stuff I read isn't specific on the toxins supposedly everywhere, but the basic tenets seems reasonable enough (exercise, eat healthy, keep your gut flora healthy, avoid excess sugar, avoid stress, and so on) so my question is why is the average american fat, unhappy, and stressed?

WTF new cat story

So this is the anon who asked if I should get a cat the other day. Cat has been successfully acquired after a stressful day of settling mom in at her new board and care. Cat does indeed bite, but also likes petting. She escaped the bathroom after a couple hours (advice from the shelter was to shut her in a small room and let her acclimatize herself for a couple days before letting her have free rein, but since she freaks out when picked up, I figure I'll just wait for her to want food, since her food, water, and litterbox are in there.

None of this is the story. I'm at my mom's place right now, cleaning up debris (ask me about her bedroom ceiling raining bees sometime) and mom has this poster of an etching, or maybe a painting. It's called The Favorite Cat, by Nathaniel Currier. I had to google it rather than look at the poster because, well...

The cat fucking thinks it's another (fucking giant) cat! I was reading when I heard her start to growl and wondered if she'd seen another cat outside or something. Then I looked behind me, and boggled. When I turned back to the actual cat, she'd puffed up and her tail was twitching. I went to poke at the poster, and she hissed. So I took it down and laid it facedown on the couch. I'm next to it now. When I went to flip the frame over and check the artist name she growled again. WTF? I've had a few cats and this has literally never happened before. WTF would she do if she saw a cat on TV? ... I guess I'll be pulling up youtube cat videos for awhile...

Sensible long-term goals: buy a house, open a business, invent something, travel, start a family, write a book, run for office, become a doctor, complete a collection, learn a language...
My idea of a long-term goal: spend probably half a decade picking away at an intensely difficult quest in an online game, a quest that will lock me out of my account forever once completed, thus being a completely pointless endeavor with the sole reward of being able to say I did it. Over the course of the rest of my life, I might meet up to two people who would be impressed by this accomplishment of ultimate masochism.
