Fandom that makes you happiest

What is the fandom where you smile just seeing images/words from it? Or the fandom that you watch when you need cheering up? The one that just makes you happy every single time?

Do people have fandoms like this? For me it is Doctor Who or Babylon 5. I have lots of fandoms, but these are the two that make me happiest. A single image from either of them can make me smile.

Co-writing a scene; any advice?

I wanted to write a dialogue between two characters, one who's deeply religious and one who will never be religious, ending with them coming to an understanding of each other's viewpoint. I had a lot of trouble writing the religious character, so I found a Christian writer in the same fandom and talked her into helping to write the conversation. We'll begin writing tomorrow, and I have no clue what I'm doing.

I guess this would be considered RPing--I'm writing one character, and the other writer is writing the other. There are a bunch of RPers here, aren't there? Any advice for a first-timer?

(If anyone's wondering what the hell prompted this, it's in response to some major gay wank in the MLP fandom that turned into religious wank through backlash. I wanted to respond with something positive and open-minded.)

Americans: advice on how to find college scholarships?

I'm not really part of any organization or community or anything, and the supposed "go-to" website for scholarships (Fastweb) is not really helping. I keep hearing from all sorts of places that there are a lot of scholarships "out there", but nothing concrete on where to actually look for them. My family's financial situation (and the fact that I'm transferring from a city college to a university) means we are getting no aid from anyone (school or state, and I'm disqualified from most needs-based scholarships).

I just...don't know where to look, or how, or where to start. Anyone have any ideas? HALP.

Oakland's a terrible place to be jobless and starving and without transportation -- and the job situation there is cartoonishly bad. It doesn't seem like it because Silicon Valley skews the numbers, but the jobless rate in the Bay Area is not great.

My friend Cori has been homeless off and on for years, having lived in cars and shelters across the country, with no support from anyone (she's estranged from her family.) She and her girlfriend are on the verge of being homeless again and it'd be nice if that didn't happen. So she's set up a fundraiser to help facilitate actually staying alive and homed while working on her novel.

This is it. Any help you can give would be great, even if it's just passing it around to the other parts of the internet you hang out at.

how to (legally) watch The Hobbit?

So, I'm taking a class on Tolkien this summer, and for one of our essays we have to compare/contrast something (a scene, a character, whatever) between the books and the movies. Which is fine and all, except... I've never seen any of the LOTR or The Hobbit movies.

I was thinking about watching one of the Hobbit movies, mainly because I've picked up some things via fandom osmosis that I think I could write about. But neither of rhe Hobbit movies (nor any of the Lord of the Rings movies) seem to be on Netflix Instant, and I have no idea how else to watch them. I don't want to buy them, because I doubt I'll watch them again and it'll be a waste of money, but I'm not sure how else I can do it. Hence my question.

tl;dr does anyone know where/how/if I can legally stream the Hobbit movies without having to buy it?

So, I recently discovered podfic. I'm probably late to the party as always. On one hand, I'm sort of fascinated by the concept (I always like audiobooks), on the other, I'm not sure.

One thing is that I found it's often the author reading it...so that sort of makes it more person (what can be good or bad). The other is...well, what about porn? I've only listened to gen stuff, but I'm not sure how I feel about an author reading out smut.

Also, from the other end, I wonder if I should ever do podfic. On one hand, it sounds like fun - on the other - well, I have reservations. also slight irrational paranoia about people recognizing my accent/voice.

So what are your thoughts on podfic, F!S?

A co-worker of mine was fired. Another co-worker and I literally linked arms and danced around his office. We celebrated with ice cream.

For the sake of context: the first week she was there, she screamed at my other co-worker, made a customer cry, threatened people, and was horribly rude to other customers. Her behavior did not improve over the last six years. Nobody is sad to see her go.
